Chinese kindergarten pupils die from poisoned yoghurt

The head of a kindergarten in northern China has been arrested after she allegedly laced yoghurt with rat poison and left it for pupils from a rival school to eat.
Two young girls, aged five and six, died after eating the yoghurt, which their grandmother found in a bag on the side of the road near their school.
She gave the yoghurt to her granddaughters when they returned from kindergarten in the afternoon. Shortly afterwards both girls began foaming at the mouth and convulsing.

One girl died on the way to the hospital while her younger sister died on Wednesday. The yoghurt was laced with tetramine, a strong rat poison, reported the China Daily newspaper.
According to the police in Pinghe county in Hebei province, Shi Haixia, the head of a rival kindergarten, and her employee Yang Wenming "admitted that they injected the poison into the yoghurt and left it on the street", the China Daily said.
"Their intention was to damage the reputation of the rival kindergarten."

The two schools were apparently locked in a battle for the village's children.
China has seen a string of shocking attacks against kindergarten and primary school students in recent years. Between 2009 and 2012 there were a spate of incidents across the country that left at least 25 dead and some 115 injured.
Many of the cases saw attackers enter schools with knives and slash at children. Some of the attackers were mentally ill, others were said to be seeking revenge.
