If You Want To Have A Male Child, Eat Banana A lot – Scientists

Women can influence the gender of their child with what they eat before they conceive, according to new research that lends scientific support to age-old superstitions about pregnancy.

The discovery shows higher calorie intake prior to conception can significantly increase the chances of having a son while women on restricted diets are more likely to produce daughters.

Scientists at Britain's Oxford and Exeter Universities, who studied eating habits of 740 women during their first-time pregnancies, say that their findings seem to back certain traditional links between diet and gender while disproving others.

Chup said the implementation of the report would no doubt commence the needed cleansing and rebuilding that would bring lasting solution to the crisis in the university.

Mother, Baby Detained 3 Months In Hospital For Failure To Settle N150,000 Bill

When a private clinic and maternity home, Jola-Oluwa Medical Clinic, was started over 20years ago by Dr. Kayode Koyejo, it was a succour to residents of Ikotun and its environs.

The street where the clinic was located was named after it's founder, Rev. Dr. Kayode Koyejo because he was rendering selfless services to patients.

He was reputed for taking all cases brought before him as a challenge to ensure satisfactory medical attention, and that attracted several patients, both rich and poor to the clinic.
Little wonder he became a household name within a short time, and the reputation of the clinic was so high that he garnered several awards including 2006 best private health facilities on Immunization and Utilization Services award.
However, this benevolence was short lived as Kayode Koyejo, 64, died in a ghastly motor accident on the 9th of March 2012, as he was rushing to the clinic to attend to an emergency situation.
There were outbursts of emotion and anguish as residents of the area and other beneficiaries trooped to the clinic to mourn their hero.
Expectant mothers were worst hit by the cruel turn of events. Soon after his burial, his wife, a Matron at Ikotun Medical Centre, Titi, took over the responsibility of managing the clinic.

SACRILEGE: Worshiper Gives Used Condom As Offering In Church

"Offering time, blessing time!" So goes the chorus from members of the congregation whenever it's time to give offering in most churches.

To most Christians, the offering time is, indeed, a time of immense financial blessing. But recently, the offering time turned into a moment of hot curses in a Lagos church when an already used condom, dripping with semen, was discovered inside the offering box after the Sunday service.

It was like a weird dream, according to the former Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Ogba Zone, Prophet Tobi Okonkwo, who witnessed the incident. The cleric said he couldn't believe his eyes when a discarded condom, with stains, was discovered in an envelope in the offertory box of his former church.

When Pope Paul VI warned on June 29, 1972 that the smoke of Satan had entered the church, not many Christians took the warning seriously.

With this recent incident, Okonkwo admitted that the agents of darkness had infiltrated the churches in large numbers and now occupy high-ranking positions in the gathering of God's children, where they wreak untold havoc on the unwary flock.

Okonkwo, who is also the General Overseer of Living Word Prayer Assembly, Agege, Lagos, wept over man's ingratitude to God during a recent monthly thanksgiving programme of the church, tagged Manna from Heaven.

Although the service was a joyful moment where the shepherd distributes food items and other gifts to his flock, his startling revelation brought a hush of silence on the congregation.

His words pierced the hearts of the worshippers, as he explained how man had become ungrateful to divine benevolence. His several instances of the atrocities committed in hallowed places pointed to the fact that messengers from hell now walked about freely in hallowed places. "It is really bad.

It has got to a point where some people come to the church to mock God. They are anti-Christ but they still go to church. You could imagine how somebody came to the church and decided to give a used condom in an envelope to God.

You can see how wicked man has become," he said. Okonkwo said the giver of the abominable gift refused to confess his crime, even when the entire church rained curses profusely on whosoever was responsible.

He said, "A curse was laid on the person. Even before the people laid the curse, God had already seen the abomination committed in his house by someone, who pretended he came to the church to worship God."

Donga council chair Capt. Douglas Ndatse (rtd), who confirmed the incident, described the examination hall as a one-storey building.

“The paper was slated for 3:30pm,” Ezekiel said, attributing the delay to officials.
Some 560 candidates are writing the examination in Alpha Academy.

According to a Twitter Trending Topics page, #MortAuxGay was a trending term in France on Tuesday. AmericaBlog also took a screenshot of Twitter's trending terms list.As the term gained notoriety, many French users took to Twitter to criticize their homophobic countrymen, but initially, the hashtag was used to convey anti-gay sentiment.

("For the benefit of our society")

("The shame of man") and ("I say no to gay marriage")

The debate over gay marriage has rocked France over the past few months, with massive -- and sometimes violent -- protests occurring in the streets.

Indeed, Tuesday night riot police battled with anti-gay protesters who attacked photographers and journalists, according to The Independent. There have also been reports of anti-same sex marriage protesters using human shields and using the fascist salute in clashes with police.

The Advocate notes that the country has seen an increase in anti-gay attacks throughout the past few weeks.
In October, French Twitter users used the hashtag #UnBonJuif, which translates to "#AGoodJew," to disseminate a variety of anti-Semitic tweets. The Union of French Jewish Students (UEJF) is currently suing Twitter for $50 million in damages relating to the tweets.

In the last five years alone up to 60 pairs of twins have been born, with the rate of twins increasing year-on-year.

Although 250 sets of twins have been officially registered in the village Dr Sribiju believes the real number to be far higher.

Fat or Slim - Who Needs Exercise?

Exercise is an activity necessary to keep the body healthy & fit no matter the physique of the person involved except there is a special case of disability.
Apart from being fit, there are other benefits of exercising & these include the cardiovascular health, muscular health in terms of contractility & resistance to stress. Others are mood elevation, stress reduction, agility etc.
Often times, people say that the gym is for the fat ones and because they are slim, they are fit. This is where the question arises - Who Needs to Exercise?
Looking from the physiological perspective, a fat non-exerciser & a slim non-exerciser share the same potential risk of suffering a bad health condition. This was observed in a study published in "The International Journal of Obesity" by a London-based team, to ascertain the levels of heart clogging cholesterol (LDL - Low Density Lipoproteins) in lean & obese non-exercisers. The study found that lean & obese exercisers maintained good levels of LDL. But those in lean & obese non-exercisers were similar & higher.

Unemployment in Spain hits historical high

I thought unemployment among the youth only peculiar to Nigeria, I never knew the rich also cry Imagine over six million unemployed in Spain.

The National Statistics Institute today published its latest Active Population Survey (Encuesta sobre la población activa) and the report makes sombre reading. In the first three months of 2013 237.000 people became unemployed - a rise of 1.14% compared to the first term in 2012. 130,400 males lost their jobs and 107,000 lost theirs. While friends, in shock, were still rallied round, trying to talk the Nigerian High Commission in UK to action, while trying to ask for a post-mortem result and to ensure justice is done, and while his family is yet to be officially informed, only yesterday, Barrister Adeniji of Rock Solicitors, the lawyer hired by his

Technology makes it easier for terrorists to act, senior official warns

Modern technology is allowing terrorists to act more easily without the risk of being caught, the Government’s most senior counter-terrorism official has warned.

Charles Farr, Director General of the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism in the Home Office, said the threat meant new powers to allow extended monitoring of communications was vital.
The Coalition is facing a bitter split over its so-called “snooper’s charter” which would allow the police and security services to monitor every phone call, email and website visit.
The plans are currently being redrafted after previous proposals were severely criticized by a special parliamentary scrutiny committee amid fears they are a breach of privacy.
New proposals could be included in the next Queen’s Speech.
Mr Farr told a London security conference that it was becoming easier for terrorists and extremists to plan and carry out attacks because of advances in communications, and something had to be done

Violent computer games led to the brutal stabbing of a teenager

A gang of knife wielding teenagers who stabbed a schoolboy to death in front of hundreds of terrified commuters had lost their grip on reality after playing violent computer games, a leading murder detective has claimed.

Sofyen Belamouadden was chased by around 20 youths, one of whom was holding a samurai sword, into Victoria Underground Station in London, where he was attacked and killed at the height of the evening rush hour in March 2010.

Father killed three children after his wife

A father killed himself and his three children after his relationship with his wife broke down after she developed a crush on her lecturer, an inquest heard.
Ceri Fuller, 35, is believed to have stabbed his 12-year-old son Samuel and daughters Rebecca, eight and Charlotte, seven, with a hunting knife, before killing himself.
All four bodies were found at the bottom of a disused quarry in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, on July 16 last year. The children had been slashed in the neck, and Samuel and Rebecca are believed to have tried to defend themselves.
An inquest into their deaths heard Mrs Fuller told her sister Joanna Ballard that her and her husband had agreed to split up before he disappeared with their three children from their

5 Things You Should Never Say at Work

By Catherine Conlan
Monster Contributing Writer

Saying certain thing at work can give others the wrong idea about you and your motives, so be aware of how your words come across to others. Here are five career killers.

"It's all your fault."

This one is fairly obvious -- direct blame never looks good. "What people are saying is 'I've got to cover my rear end,'" says Barb Krantz Taylor, principal consultant at The Bailey Group in Minneapolis. And that can make you look insecure, reluctant to take responsibility, or even a tyrant. "Leaders need self-management, and if I feel angry, I need to find ways to deal with it," Taylor says. Lashing out and blaming others not only doesn't solve the problem at hand, it wrecks business relationships and can seriously hurt your career. Instead, focus on solving the problem and then, when things are quieter, finding out how to prevent it from happening again.

"It's all my fault."

This seems like it could be helpful, but Taylor warns that it's not. "Falling on your sword brings you into a place of shame," she says. Being the martyr and taking everything on yourself can set you up for future blame, as well as plant the impression that you are incompetent. Accept the responsibility for things only if that responsibility is truly yours. "You can apologize for a situation that someone is in," Taylor says, adding that doing so can be effective in moving the focus away from who's at fault and onto finding solutions.

Football: Luis Suarez 10-game ban: FA punishes Liverpool striker for bite

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been banned for 10 games by the Football Association for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic.Liverpool, who have already fined the Uruguay international, have until Friday at 12:00 BST to appeal.
An FA statement read: "A three-person Independent Regulatory Commission today upheld The FA's claim that a suspension of three matches was clearly insufficient and the player will serve a further seven first-team matches in addition to the standard three. The suspension begins with immediate effect.
"The Liverpool forward had accepted a charge of violent conduct but had denied The FA's claim that the standard three-match sanction was insufficient for the offence.
"The incident was not seen by the match officials and has therefore been retrospectively reviewed.
"Suarez has until midday on Friday, 26 April to appeal the additional suspension, above the standard three matches."
The ban covers their final four games of this season, and the first six games of 2013-14.
LFC managing director Ian Ayre said: "Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today's Independent Regulatory Commission decision.
"We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment."
It is not the first time Suarez has been charged with such an offence. He was banned for seven games when he was at Ajax after biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal's shoulder during a match in November 2010.
During his time at Liverpool, he was also given an eight-match ban and £40,000 fine by the FA for racially abusing Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra in December 2011.

Man Finds 'Jesus' In His Laundry (PHOTO

A man who ruined his clothes during a recent laundry session says a heavy-handed mishap led to a holy discovery.

Martin Andrews was doing laundry and spilled some fabric softener on a shirt, according to the United Kingdom's Metro. When he took a closer look at the fabric softener stain, he says he saw 'Jesus Christ'.

In the splotch, one can make out a man with his two arms outstretched. It appears the figure also has a halo on his head. Still, it might be a bit of a stretch to call it Jesus.

Woman Squeezes Man's Testicles Until He Dies of Shock

The 42-year-old man came out of the shop and told her she could not leave her bike their and the pair reportedly got into a shouting match.

Bangladesh factory building collapse kills nearly 100

An eight-storey block housing garment factories and a shopping center collapsed on the outskirts of the Bangladeshi capital on Wednesday, killing nearly 100 people and injuring hundreds more, officials said.
Fire fighters and army personnel worked frantically through the day at the Rana Plaza building in Savar, 30 km (19 miles) outside Dhaka, to rescue people trapped in the rubble. Television showed young women workers, some apparently semi-conscious, being pulled from the debris.
One fireman told Reuters that about 2,000 people were in the building when the upper floors jolted down on top of each other.
Bangladesh’s booming garment industry has been plagued by fires and other accidents for years, despite a drive to improve safety standards. In November last year, 112 workers were killed in a blaze at the Tazreen factory in a nearby industrial suburb.
“It looks like an earthquake has struck here,” said one resident as he looked on at the chaotic scene of smashed concrete and ambulances making their way through the crowds of workers and wailing relatives.
“I was at work on the third floor, and then suddenly I heard a deafening sound, but couldn’t understand what was happening. I ran and was hit by something on my head,” said Zohra Begum a worker at one of the factories.
An official at a control room set up to provide information about the missing and injured said that 96 people were confirmed dead and more than 700 were injured.
Mohammad Asaduzzaman, in charge of the area’s police station, said factory owners appeared to have ignored a warning not to allow their workers into the building after a crack was detected in the block on Tuesday.

Finance experts say Nigerian inflation to rise in second quarter

Nigeria’s inflation rate has fallen to the lowest and will start to rise in the second quarter, experts say.
Nigeria’s inflation rate which fell to about 8.6 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) in March, from 9.5 per cent in February has reached its lowest and will begin to rise from the second quarter, finance experts have said.
The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, in a report issued last week, said the Consumer Price Index, CPI, which measures inflation, rose by 8.6 per cent year-on-year in March. Relative to February, the report stated that relatively lower rise in the headline index could primarily attributable to base effects from March of 2012.
Nigeria’s inflation slowed to an almost five year low in March 8.6 per cent YoY in March, from 9.5 per cent YoY in February and 9.0 per cent in January. Inflation came in lower than the consensus expectation of some experts at 9.0 per cent.

Abortion Doctor Faces Death Penalty as Macabre Details Emerge During Trial

U.S. - A judge and jury in Philadelphia began hearing testimony in the case of Dr. Kermit Gosnell more than a month ago. Gosnell is being tried on eight counts of murder. Gosnell's defense is scheduled to begin this week, and observers are waiting to see if he will testify.

The charges include eight counts of murder. Seven of them are first-degree murder and could bring the death penalty. Those are the charges involving the babies who were allegedly born alive. The eighth murder count is a third-degree murder count involving the overdose death of the 41-year-old patient, Karnamaya Mongar.

RELATED NEWS: Shocking: The "House Of Horrors" Abortion Clinic

This all stemmed from investigators coming into the clinic a few years ago. They were actually looking for something else, responding to a tip about drug, his prescribing of prescription drugs. He was apparently one of the more high-volume prescribers in the state of Pennsylvania. And the raid was intended to examine that. Allegedly, he was freely writing prescriptions for addicts and drug dealers, etc.

But the FBI and other federal and state authorities stumbled upon abortions which were going on that evening. They were expecting to arrive at the clinic in the evening and find that -- they were hoping that they wouldn't encounter the abortion going on. They didn't want to interrupt that.

But, in fact, Gosnell tended to perform the surgeries that night after the patients had been there during the day. And they found, they said, very unsanitary, filthy conditions, somewhat macabre findings, including fetuses that were stored in the freezer. That was perhaps because he was in a billing dispute with his medical disposal company, and they were not being picked up.

So that actually provided evidence for prosecutors. They could perform autopsies and learn whether or not they believed the babies were late-term and conduct other investigation on the findings in the clinic.

Much of the prosecution testimony come from former employees, eight of whom have pleaded guilty in the case. Three of them indeed pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and await sentencing. They will get credit for their cooperation.

They have testified to a number of things, including about themselves that they were often unlicensed or untrained. Some of the women who were doing I.V. drug administration, as well always ultrasounds and indeed assisting with abortions, had merely a few months of training to be medical assistants.

Man Asks For His Penis To Be Cut Off

Chinese surgeons have performed the world's first penis transplant on a man whose organ was damaged beyond repair in an accident this year.

The incident left the man with a 1cm-long stump with which he was unable to urinate or have sexual intercourse. "His quality of life was affected severely," said Dr Weilie Hu, a surgeon at Guangzhou General Hospital.

Doctors spent 15 hours attaching a 10cm penis to the 44-year-old patient after the parents of a brain-dead man half his age agreed to donate their son's organ.

The procedure, described in a case study due to appear in the journal European Urology next month, represents a big leap forward in transplant surgery; it required complex microsurgery to connect nerves and tiny blood vessels.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez gets support from Mike Tyson

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez gets support from Mike Tyson after biting arm of Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic
Mike Tyson believes Liverpool striker Luis Suarez will make up with Branislav Ivanovic - just as the former world boxing champion did with Evander Holyfield.
Suarez is facing an extended ban from the Football Association for biting Chelsea defender Ivanovic on the arm in Sunday's 2-2 draw at Anfield.
Tyson was involved in similar controversy when he bit off a chunk of Evander Holyfield's ear in the WBA heavyweight title fight between the two in 1997.
The Americans have since settled their differences and Tyson is confident Suarez and Ivanovic will do the same.
He told the David Glenn radio show in America: "He (Suarez) bit someone, it happens. I am sure he will make amends with this guy.
"I made amends with Evander and we got on with our lives."

Tyson started to follow Suarez on Twitter when he heard of the weekend incident.
He added: "I saw this guy (Suarez) on the Twitter thing and thought I would check it out and see what his journey was all about."
Suarez, who has been fined by Liverpool, called Ivanovic late on Sunday to apologise for his actions.

5 Things You Should Never Do After A Breakup

Dealing with a breakup can be a very painful and confusing experience. A lot of emotions run through you and you are likely to take rash decisions if care is not taken.

Here are a few things you must NOT do after a breakup:

1, Don't Beg:

For God's sake, don't beg! Begging after a breakup only makes matters worse. It makes you appear pathetic and it can be very irritating. Maybe you don't understand why it ended. Maybe you think it ended for the wrong reasons. Maybe you'd just rather be in a bad relationship than be in no relationship at all. No matter what you do, don't beg for him/her to return. Deep down, you know that you don't want to be in a relationship with someone you had to beg to be with you. Besides, if your ex rejects you a second time, it won't just hurt; the rejection will sting with extra humiliation and regret

Nigerian Girls Sold Into Sex Slavery & Trapped In Italy's Sex-slave Trade

Read a report from Daily Beast about how Nigerian girls, as young as 13, are sold and forced into sex slavery in Italy...

Across Italy, Nigerian women are forced into the sex trade, essentially kept as slaves who are bought and sold and moved according to a moribund supply and demand. Some of the prostitutes are young girls, just 13 or 14 years old. Others are in their 20s or 30s. Many have children. Some are still married to men in Nigeria. They usually sit on white plastic chairs under umbrellas to protect them from the rain in the winter and the harsh sun in the summer.

393 Rapes In Delhi In Past Three Months

For the second time since December 2012, Delhi saw a tsunami of anger over rape.
A couple of dolls, flopping akimbo on the five-year-old girl who was raped over three days in a capital slum became the emblem of a city's sound and fury, signifying its anger towards a police that fails to protect women and children, and towards a political establishment that seems to have done little except repeatedly appoint commissions as after the December gangrape.

As Delhi seethed in sullen rage, the government seemed to be expecting a December protest redux.

Section 144 was hastily imposed as if anticipating the capital's anger rising in the early summer heat.

Soon, the number of protesters swelled at the protected enclaves of the capital-the homes of Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Sushilkumar Shinde and Delhi Police headquarters.

74 School Girls Poisoned In Gas Attack

As many as 74 school girls at the Bibi Hawa Girls High School are feared poisoned after falling sick from smelling a strange gas on Thursday morning.

The school, located in Taluquan, the capital of Afghanistan's far North province of Takhar, is only the latest incident of mass poisonings of girls schools - a sadly recurrent tragedy being coordinated by the ultra-conservative elements of Afghan society that believe girls should not be educated.

As President Karzai calls for local leaders to promote fairness and equality in education for women, a right that was granted to women after the fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001, the Afghan Education Ministry has closed 550 schools across the country due to security concerns, affecting 300,000 students in eleven provinces.
