Why I sacked youth minister........President Goodluck

I know Nigerians are eager to know the reason why the Minister of Youths Development was fired by the President.I thought of his age earlier but never knew the President observed his inefficiency.
President Goodluck Jonathan says he sacked the Minister of Youths Development, Inuwa Abdulkadir, for failing to provide appropriate leadership towards open and transparent elections of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
He described as regrettable and unacceptable, the minister’s deviation from his administration’s commitment to free, fair and credible elections of the youth council.
The president was yesterday reacting to media reports linking the minister’s sacking to his disloyalty or closeness to a particular governor or governors said to be opposed to him.
Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati, in a statement yesterday, stressed that Jonathan had no preferred candidate in youth council elections.

Daughter's iPad charger 'explodes in father's hand' giving him

Daughter's iPad charger 'explodes in father's hand' giving him a huge electric shock that 'would have killed her' Tim Gillooley was 'thrown across the room' when he went to unplug device
He believes daughter Chloe, 8, would have been killed by the shock
Last month a Chinese woman was reportedly killed after answering an iPhone while it was plugged in.A concerned father has told how his daughter's iPad charger exploded in his hand giving him a massive electric shock which he believes 'would have killed her'.
Tim Gillooley, 34, said he was thrown across the room and left with blackened fingers when he reached down to unplug the device at his mother’s house in Widnes, Cheshire.
And he believes his eight-year-old daughter Chloe would most likely have been killed had it been her, instead of him, who had touched the device.
According to Mr Gillooley Chloe asked him to unplug the charger on his way back from the bathroom on Saturday last weekend.

Taraba lawmakers decided to ask Governor Danbaba Suntai to go back to the United States to continue his treatment.

It has just been announced that Taraba lawmakers decided to ask Governor Danbaba Suntai to go back to the United States to continue his treatment.
Haruna Tsokwa, the Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, speaking on behalf of the lawmakers asked the governor to return to the U.S. to continue his rehabilitation programme and only come back to run his office when he is fully fit.
The Speaker addressed journalists in Jalingo on the morning of August 29, 2013, Thursday.
This address follows the visit of 24 lawmakers to Mr. Suntai on Wednesday night, and their promise to speak out today.
Mr. Tsokwa added that all the lawmakers were convinced Mr. Suntai is not fit to return to office.
Critics have accused the governor's family and associates of attempting to foist a critically ill governor on the state so they can usurp his powers: "These charlatans have desperately kept trying to cling to political power and by extension the resources of Taraba State through series of craftily woven plots of deceits, meant to hoodwink the Nigeria public in a manner similar to the unfortunate Turai-Yar'adua saga."

The look of upcoming Iphone

Apple's iPhone C will be scratch resistant and have a dual flash camera to improve the quality of photos
Chinese fan site reports that the new iPhone 5S will have a dual LED flash
The website also claims to have a selection of plastic cases for iPhone C
It tried, and failed, to scratch the cases with keys, nails and safety clips

An Apple fan site in China is reporting that the upcoming iPhone 5S will have a dual LED flash designed to improve photos by adding more light to scenes and by making people look more illuminated.
In a video on the same Apple Daily story, a reporter is also shown putting what is said to be the case of the low-cost iPhone C inside a bag full of keys, coins, safety clips and nails before shaking it.
The case is then removed and its back is shown to the camera to confirm that the plastic cases will be scratch-resistant.
The site also confirms that the iPhone 5C will be slightly thicker than the current iPhone 5.
Last week rumours emerged that the iPhone 5S will come in black, white and gold.
A gold option had first been suggested in May when leaked parts of the new iPhone were shown to be markedly different from those in the current model.
Techcrunch columnist MG Siegler said he had heard by 'multiple sources' there will be a gold iPhone 5S.
The current iPhone is only available in black and white.

The airport source, who did not want his name in print said, “From what we heard, the boy said he was being maltreated and tried to escape from his parents. He thought he was on his way to the US.
“The parents have travelled to Lagos by road, to get him back.”

1,300 people including hundreds of women and children are wiped out in nerve gas attack say Syrian rebels

Genocide in Syria as 1,300 people including hundreds of women and children are wiped out in nerve gas attack say Syrian rebels as Hague warns use of chemical weapons would mark 'shocking escalation'
Activists claim 1,300 killed in government rocket strike on residential area
If true, it would represent the worst known use of chemical weapons since  Saddam Hussein gassed thousands of Kurds in the town of Halabja in 1988
Chemical warheads hit suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar
They hit just before dawn as families lay sleeping
A UN team is in Syria to probe chemical weapons use by President Assad
Many countries have called for an immediate investigation
French Foreign Minister has called the attack an 'unprecedented atrocity'
Claims come as refugees flood into Iraqi Kurdistan

The world has looked on in horror today as graphic images emerged showing the aftermath of a dawn poison gas attack in the suburbs of Damascus that wiped out 1,300 people as they lay sleeping in their beds.
Syrian activists accuse President Bashar al-Assad's forces of launching the nerve gas attack in what would be by far the worst reported use of poison gas in the two-year-old civil war.
Activists said rockets with chemical agents hit the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar before dawn.
While these pictures of dead children are graphic, disturbing and undoubtedly the worst so far to have emerged from the conflict, MailOnline has made the decision to publish them in order to raise awareness of the plight of innocent people in a war that shows no sign of ending.
The accounts could not be verified independently and were denied by Syrian state television, which said they were disseminated deliberately to distract a team of United Nations chemical weapons experts that arrived three days ago.

Boots pulls vegetarian pasta pots off the shelves after customer finds it contains CHICKEN

Boots pulls vegetarian pasta pots off the shelves after customer finds it contains CHICKEN
Fayah Hussain, 19, purchased the Delicious Simply Cheese and Tomato Salad from a Boots in Birmingham Airport
When she tucked into the dish, Fayah found it contained lumps of chicken
Error is believed to be a result of a labelling mix-up on the chicken and vegetarian versions of the dish
Boots has removed its cheese and tomato pasta pot meals from its shelves after a customer complained she tucked into the vegetarian snack – and swallowed a mouthful of chicken.
The product was pulled after teenager Fayah Hussain, a Muslim who only eats halal meat, found the meat in the dish which had been labelled with a green V to mark it as a vegetarian cuisine.
Last night, the retail giant admitted it had received a small number of complaints about the Delicious Simply Cheese and Tomato Salad and temporarily removed the meal from its stores.
Fayah, who purchased the fast food at Birmingham Airport’s Boots outlet last Friday, alleges she was only offered a £1.90 refund and snack bar when she complained to staff about the meat content at the branch.
Fayah, from Yardley Wood, Birmingham, said: 'Muslims who have passed through Birmingham Airport must have eaten this without knowing. It’s disgusting.
'But this isn’t just about Muslims. How many vegetarians have eaten meat without knowing?'
Fayah said she knew immediately that there was a problem with the dish when she tasted it.
She added: 'As soon as I bit into it, I knew there was something different.
'When I looked into the pot and saw the chicken pieces, I really didn’t know what to do.
'I had been fasting for a month. Ramadan had just finished and it was the first time I was able to eat at work – and this happens!

Naked man seen running through city centre found at bottom of 50ft lift shaft on building site

A man spotted running naked around bars and restaurants in a city centre is thought to have to plunged to his death down a 50ft hole on a building site.
Officers launched an investigation after a man's naked body was found at the bottom of a lift shaft at the One Smithfield Square site near the Northern Quarter in Manchester yesterday afternoon.
Greater Manchester Police detectives believe he is the same man seen by revellers 'looking lost' and trying to get into Northern Quarter nightspots barefoot and wearing no clothes on Friday night.
He was witnessed in the area by dozens of people at around 8.30pm, with one woman seeing him enter Solita restaurant in what appeared to be a 'confused state' in front of a room full of diners.

World's smallest phone proves hit with prisoners

Small, discreet and completely innocent looking, this tiny 'key fob phone' has been widely advertised as a 'fun item'.
But they are deadly serious to the prisoners inside British jails, who have been smuggling them in to make illegal calls.
The tiny handsets, which sell for £40 on various auction sites, can be easily hidden from guards, and offer inmates the chance to make calls or texts.
Although they do not have internet access, possession of the phone is highly prized - as seen by the 7,000 handsets and SIM cards seized in English and Welsh prisons last year, The Times reported.
Various sellers boast that the phones, which often have logos on, are made with minimal metal and are largely constructed of plastic.
This will be useful to buyers who want to use them in prison as they will evade the metal detectors used in prisons to hunt out contraband items.
Having a mobile phone in jail is a criminal offence carrying a two-year sentence and/ or an unlimited fine.
Currently there are approximately 41,000 confiscated mobile phones in storage, costing the Prison Service £20,000 per annum, according to official figures.
At present, inmates are given enough money to buy stamps and make phone calls to keep in touch with their family.
Currently, prisons cannot destroy mobile phones that are confiscated, but a new Bill hopes to change that.
In February, a Bill giving prisons new powers to destroy or dispose of unauthorised property found in the possession of prisoners received Royal Assent.

China flooding toll rises above 130

BEIJING: The death toll from devastating floods at opposite ends of China following torrential rains and the aftermath of a typhoon has risen to more than 130, the government and media said Tuesday.
Flooding in the northeast, which has been described as the worst there in decades, has killed 85 people and left 102 missing in recent days, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
Another 49 people, meanwhile, have perished in Hunan, central China, and in the southern provinces of Guangdong and Guangxi, the ministry of civil affairs announced.
The flooding has destroyed homes and sent rivers of mud flowing into city streets.
Desperate residents scrambled to escape the rising waters, using makeshift rafts and any implements they could find -- including inflatable paddling pools -- to flee. Many had to climb trees to avoid being swept away, pictures showed.
President Xi Jinping "has demanded all-out efforts in putting people's lives first", Xinhua reported Monday.

Woman Pays For iPhones & Got Apple fruits

There are apples, the fruit, and Apple iPhones, and usually it’s pretty easy to tell the difference.
Unfortunately, an Australian woman caught up in a scam ended up paying $1,200 for two pieces of fruit.
The crime of produce happened on a Website called Gumtree. According to the Herald Sun, the 21-year-old scam victim placed an ad asking if anyone had an iPhone for sale.
She got a response from another woman who said she could sell her two. The two met at a McDonald’s where the buyer handed the seller $1,200 and was handed two “iPhone boxes that looked new.” The
woman didn’t check to see what was inside.

She finally looked once she got home, and found fruit, not phones, inside.
Police from the Queensland town of Upper Mount Gravatt, near Brisbane, pointed out that people should be “wary” when buying online.

"Nigerian Senators Earn Four Times More Than Obama" – David-West" news

Prof. Tam David-West, the former Minister of Petroleum, said there were "more thieves in the Nigerian government than saints". David-West made the observation while speaking at a town hall meeting organised by the University of Ibadan chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

He spoke thus: "Any government that fails to invest in education is a vagabond government. The problem with Nigeria is that we have more thieves than saints in government.

"We drill over two million barrels of crude oil per day. Why should we be poor? ASUU is saying, 'Put money in education to improve education quality for our children and those yet unborn'.

"The same government that does not have money for education budgeted N1bn each to feed the President and Vice-President for a year. Are they eating rock in Aso Rock?
"It is not having university degree that makes you a good leader. Late President Umaru Yar'Adua and Goodluck Jonathan are the first set with university degrees -- but that has not translated to significant changes. Churchill was not the best in his class but one of the best world leaders."

He said there was no justification for any lawmaker to earn more than a university professor.

"They spend less time and may not even have five credits, yet a Senator in Nigeria earns more than 10 professors. A Senator in Nigeria can pay President Obama's salary four times over. When people get to the top they become insane," he noted.

Egyptian Protesters Push An Armoured Police Van Off A Bridge

It was a horrifying moment when a police van was recently pushed off a bridge in Cairo by angry protesters. As if that was not enough, demonstrators attacked the burning wreckage, throwing stones at it.

The dramatic pictures show the van being ambushed by dozens of people before crashing through a protective fence on the bridge. It then falls upside down and then rolls onto its roof as it lands. Blood can then be seen on the ground as nearby police officers pull injured men out of the crushed vehicle.

People Who Have Sex At Least 4 Times A Week Make More Money: Study

People who have sex four times or more a week earn higher wages than their less-sexually active colleagues at a statistically significant level, according to a discussion paper from Nick Drydakis, a fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor, a private, independent organization focused on labor market research.
To come up with the findings, Drydakis, who is also an economics lecturer in the business school at Cambridge, England-based Angila Ruskin University, analyzed a year-long survey of 7,500 Greek households. The survey asked the representative sample respondents how many times they had sex per week, whether they were employed, how much money they made and how many hours per week they worked, among other questions.
But before you rush to go between the sheets, it's important to note that Drydakis' findings don't indicate that more sex directly translates into a raise. Instead, the study found that the two factors are correlated. See, people who have frequent sex tend to be happier, have higher self-esteem, better reasoning ability and are less likely to be depressed. Other research has found that workers with health problems tend to make less money due to limited productivity and in some cases, discrimination.

Cisco cutting 4,000 jobs, CEO sees slow progress

Cisco has been whittling away at its workforce and selling off consumer businesses such as home networking, in a turnaround begun in 2010, when it started losing ground to nimbler rivals like Juniper Networks and Palo Alto Networks.
The company that once specialized in providing the backbone of the Internet now sees software and equipment for datacenters and corporate cloud networking as its keys to growth. But Wednesday's results suggest the pace of expansion has been slower than anticipated, analysts said.
"The environment in terms of our business is improving slightly but nowhere near the pace that we want," said Chief Executive John Chambers on a conference call following quarterly earnings. "We have to very quickly reallocate the resources."
Cisco said last month it plans to buy cyber security company Sourcefire Inc for $2.7 billion. The company has made it a priority to improve security across its hardware, software and cloud products.
Chambers also said the current business environment was underperforming his expectations. Despite strength in the United States, weakness in Asia and mixed results from Europe continued to dog its business.

A woman praying solo in a U.K. church was saved on Sunday - by the higher power of Twitter, which she turned to after being accidentally locked inside the house of worship by a volunteer that morning.
"I'm locked inside St. Andrews Church! I was in private praying chapel and when I came out, everyone was gone and doors locked. #Plymouth #help," tweeted Sarah Greep, a jam maker and mother of two who is based in the English seaside city of Plymouth, in Devon.

100,000 People Apply For One-Way Trip To Mars" news.

More than 100,000 people have applied for a one-way trip to Mars, as a part of the ambitious multi-billion dollar project that aims to colonise the Red planet starting in 2022.
100,000 People Will Go to Mars and Not Return
While it remains questionable how humans would be able to survive on Mars, it has not stopped a whopping number of people from signing up for The Mars One project.
"There is also a very large number of people who are still working on their profile, so either they have decided not to pay the application fee, or they are still making their video or they're still filling out the questionnaire or their resume.
So the people that you can see on-line are only the ones that have finished and who have set their profiles as public," said Bas Lansdorp, Mars One CEO and co-founder.
Lansdorp did not specify how many have paid the fees, completed their profiles and configured them as private.
The application process specifies anyone 18 or older may apply, but the fee depends on a user's nationality. For US citizens, the application fee is $38.The company said it sets the price based on the gross domestic product per capita of each nation."We wanted it to be high enough for people to have to really think about it and low enough for anyone to be able to afford it," Lansdorp said.
As far as the first crew is concerned, the mission will cost $6 billion, Lansdorp said.
He said the idea is for it to be funded by sponsors and media that will pay for broadcasting rights of shows and movies documenting everything from the astronauts' training on Earth to their deployment and colonisation of Mars.

Dead people have donated $600,000 to politicians since 2009

And no, ghosts aren't messing with our democracy
Political contributions from deceased individuals totaled nearly $600,000 over the last few years, according to a USA Today analysis.
Since the start of 2009, 32 people listed as dead on federal campaign documents gave $586,000 to presidential and congressional candidates, USA Today found. Though that may sound impossible, or at the least nefarious, it's technically legal.
Indeed, there are acceptable ways for people to donate money after their deaths. However, the cases are extremely rare and are, by their nature, "potentially problematic," Larry Noble, an attorney and former head of the Center for Responsive Politics, told Open Secrets back in 2011.
"Generally, the dead aren't supposed to give," he said.
So how do they pull it off? People can establish charitable trusts prior to their deaths with specific instructions on how to spend the money. Political donations from such trusts, called testamentary bequests, are subject to the same restrictions imposed on donations from the living.
For example, the donations can't be made in someone else's name, and they must total less than $5,200 for a single candidate in an election cycle, or less than $32,400 for a party in a single year. People in charge of the trusts can't donate to a PAC they're affiliated with.

China's tallest building nears finish in Shanghai

SHANGHAI (AP) — The world's second-tallest building is nearing completion in Shanghai's financial hub.The building will be China's tallest building. The final beam was hoisted to the top of the skyscraper and installed in a flag-waving ritual on Saturday.
At 632 meters (2,073 feet), the Shanghai Tower in the city's Pudong district is the world's second-tallest building, surpassed only by Dubai's Burj Khalifa, which soars 829.8 meters (2,722 feet).
Workers will now concentrate on the building's interior construction. Once it is completed next year, the Shanghai Tower will have retail and office space, a luxury hotel and likely a museum.
"I'm very proud," Wu Weiming, who helped installed the last beam, told reporters.

U.S. extends embassy closings, lawmakers say threat serious

(Report from Reuters) - The United States extended embassy closures by a week in the Middle East and Africa as a precaution on Sunday after an al Qaeda threat that U.S. lawmakers said was the most serious in years.

The State Department said 19 U.S. embassies and consulates would be closed through Saturday "out of an abundance of caution" and that a number of them would have been closed anyway for most of the week due to the Eid celebration at the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The United States initially closed 21 U.S. diplomatic posts for the day on Sunday. Some of those will reopen on Monday, including Kabul, Baghdad and Algiers.

Four new diplomatic posts - in Madagascar, Burundi, Rwanda and Mauritius - were added to the closure list for the week.

Last week, the State Department issued a worldwide travel alert warning Americans that al Qaeda may be planning attacks in August, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa.

"There is an awful lot of chatter out there," U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

He said the "chatter" - communications among terrorism suspects about the planning of a possible attack - was "very reminiscent of what we saw pre-9/11."

The Governor made clear that government will not relent in its resolve to flush out hoodlums from all parts of the State and will continue to knock down property belonging to criminals."I am aware some would rather want us to convert those property for use for public purposes, but I tell you, acquiring those property and knocking them down is psychological more beneficial because the weight of the punishment is proportional to how much fear it engenders in people to run away from crime", he said.

Husband Flees After Wife Delivers Triplets

A 40-year-old farmer, Biodun Akapo, a resident of Afojupa Village,a suburb of Owode-Egba Town of Ogun State, is on the run because his wife bore triplets.
The mother delivered the babies on July 24 at Ore-Ofe Maternity Home in the town. She was only able to pay the hospital bill with the intervention of the traditional ruler of the town, Kolawole Sowemimo.
The father of the babies, who was not available as at the time of the delivery, absconded when news filtered to him about the delivery. He is yet to appear as at the time of this report.
Narrating the story, the 30-year-old house wife, Bose Akapo, who already has two children aged 5 and 8, said her husband was not at home when labour commenced. She explained that she was assisted to the hospital on a motorcycle by a neighbour.
She said she never envisaged that there were three babies in her womb.
"I was taken to hospital on a motorcycle by a neighbour when I started noticing signs of delivery, because my husband was not at home then. But surprisingly, I gave birth to triplets and when the news got to my husband he failed to show up till date," she said.
The mother said she had to contact the traditional ruler of Owode-Egba, who rendered assistance in providing clothing and other medical materials for the babies.
She lamented that her husband, on hearing the news about the delivery of the triplets, absconded and has since remained incommunicado.
