Why I Campaigned for IBB – Raymond Dokpesi

I thought he wasn't himself anymore when I heard he campaigned for IBB,he actually knew what he was doing just that many Nigerians weren't properly informed. I advise you to read about him if you don't know much of his profile.

Raymond Anthony Alegho Dokpesi is at 61, chairman and chief executive officer of DAAR Communications, is a household name in Nigeria and one of the few men who made it to the top through creativity and industry. With a PhD in Marine Engineering, his versatility and spontaneity made him a pioneer in many divergent fields. He established the first indigenous shipping line, African Ocean Line, AOL, in Nigeria; established the first privately owned radio station, Raypower FM, in Nigeria; he pioneered Nigeria’s First global TV which was Africa’s first ever Satellite TV station; he established the first TV station in Nigeria, African Independent Television, AIT, to run 24-hour broadcasting; and launched the AIT signals in the United States. His DAAR Communications is the first media outfit to have gone public.

Today, Dokpesi, like the ant, is busy silently building the largest television and radio network in Africa. By February 2013, both AIT and Raypower radio had 23 stations across Nigeria. Ten more television and radio stations were completed for inauguration in March, bringing the total to 33. And he is not done yet. In another one year, he will have added three more TV and radio stations to complete 100 per cent coverage of Nigeria on the terrestrial platform. In addition, Daarsat Satellite TV, which went under due to logistic reasons, was also re-launched in March.

Dokpesi is passionate about his media business, with eyes now on the global stage. After a brief stint in politics in 2010/2011, he says he is through with politics and would dedicate the rest of his life contributing to nation building. He is very passionate about Nigeria and affirms that no external interest will develop Nigeria better than Nigerians. He spoke with Anayochukwu Agbo, senior associate editor, and Tajudeen Suleiman, associate editor. Excerpts:
