Chelsea have moved a step closer to securing the return of Jose Mourinho after the Special One reportedly confirmed he will leave Real Madrid next season.

Jose Mourinho is set for a sensational return to Chelsea as the successor to Rafael Benitez – and he wants to bring Cristiano Ronaldo with him, write the Express.

The charismatic Real Madrid coach is fast approaching the end of his tenure at the Bernabeu, and is said to be in advanced discussions to seal a deal that puts him back in charge at Stamford Bridge – six years after being sacked by Roman Abramovich.

The billionaire owner is said to have healed his relationship with Mourinho and is prepared to welcome him back with arms – and cheque book – wide open.

Once back in London, the former Inter Milan boss will do all he can to lure Cristiano Ronaldo away from his current employers.

The Portuguese knows his fellow countryman is unhappy with life in Spain and is prepared to make a £60 million bid to bring him to West London. That’s £20 million less than the reining La Liga champions paid for the star when they took him from Manchester United in 2009, but with talks stalling over a new deal, the club may be forced into selling their prized asset.

The news will come as music to the ears to many a Chelsea fan, who have long detested current interim manager Rafael Benitez since he replaced Roberto Di Matteo last November.
