Valentine's Day Fallout: Nigerian Couple Reconciles In Court

An estranged couple, which had been living apart for seven years, on Thursday abandoned their marriage dissolution bid and made peace before an Ikeja High Court.
Olorunloba Ogundipe and his hitherto separated wife, Tinuade, reconciled their differences before Justice Joseph Oyewole on St. Valentine's Day. Tinuade, 44, a civil servant, had sought to divorce her husband of 18 years, over alleged adultery on the man's part.
The petitioner, who resides at 2, Olu Akinde Avenue, Akinde Estate, Alakuko, had claimed that Olorunloba, 51, was having an illicit affair with a banker.
However, in the spirit of St. Valentine’s Day celebration on Thursday, the mother of three filed a notice of discontinuance of the case, saying that she had made peace with her husband.
She urged the court to grant the application.
Dismissing the suit, Oyewole commended the couple for its decision.
"You have made my Valentine's Day special; it is a big plus to this court," the judge said.
He advised other couples seeking to dissolve their unions to emulate the Ogundipes, and intensify efforts to sustain their marriages.
