A few respondents were interviewed in part of Abuja, where I asked ‘’what is the full meaning of MTN’’? The respondents responded angrily based on the poor services experience by customers a couple of weeks now. I understand they actually know the meaning, but they used the chance to express their anger.
Below are the responses:
1. Making Turanchi from Nigerians
2. Malicious Thief in Nigeria
3. Milk The Nigerians
4. Mercilessly Tariffing Nigerians
5. Money Thiefing Niggas
6. Empty Hen
7. Milk Them Now
8. Manage The Network
9. Multiple Tax Network
10. Most Terrible Network
11. Make Them Network
12. Manipulating Tricking Nigerians
MTN is an acronym for (Mobile Telecommunication Network). Disregard the above various meaning given by different subscribers. It is as a result of the anger expressed by individual subscribers. A time like this shouldn’t be the best to make fun of the telecom company because as customers we have the right to complain yet they are facing a lot of challenges too by providing a sustainable service. Some of the challenges they are facing are; Vandalising Telecom infrastructure, Killings of guards and security officers, killing of Site Engineers, threaten from the Sec Boko Haram and of course power instability etc.
We shouldn’t be too quick to forget that in spite of the poor services; the same Telecom Company has tremendously impacted positively in Nigeria. It gave employment, produce star through project frame, changed the fortune of some Nigerian via “Who wants to be a Million”. These are people who had no hope in making it through their natural gifted talent because their Government have betrayed them. But with the company and the rest telecommunication companies hope was restored and revived.
My suggestion to all the telecom operators is to ensure that subscribers are carrying along whenever there is going to be down-time, they are the major stakeholders and by respecting them and making sure the customers get value for their money. They should also know that not all Nigerians have access to media adverts as a result of inadequate power supply.SMS should be send to all network users, pre-informing subscribers beforehand. Promoting blogs will also do more good hence subscribers now have access blogs with their mobile phone. Nigerians are busy people always on their job in spite of the economy situation. They had little or no time to read daily times, listen to radio or even watch the news on the television. This is why other means of propagating information should not be neglected.
