Luis Suarez apologises
Luis Suarez apologises to Branislav Ivanovic after biting the Chelsea defender during the 2-2 draw at Anfield
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has apologised for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic following a shameful incident which could spell the end of his Anfield career.
Suarez said his reprehensible conduct was ‘inexcusable’ but Liverpool will consider taking the ultimate sanction and selling him if they consider the Uruguayan is inflicting too much damage to his club’s image.
The Merseyside club branded their own player’s behaviour ‘unacceptable’ having reviewed the astonishing images involving Suarez and Ivanovic during the second half of the 2-2 draw at Anfield.
It is the second time in 12 months Liverpool have had to issue a statement publicly rebuking the South American for his on-field conduct.
Television cameras showed Suarez take a bite of the Serbian defender’s arm, prompting a furious response across the English game and an immediate Football Association investigation. The 26-year-old is sure to be hit with a prolonged ban.
