Any building used by criminals to harbour kidnap victims in Edo State will now be demolished. This was part of the resolution reached at the end the State Security Council presided over by Governor Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday.
Addressing reporters on behalf of the Council at the end of the meeting yesterday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, said: "the council has resolved that any house used for kidnapping purposes will be demolished."
Flanked by Mr Bakori Tukur, the State Director of the Department of State Security and
representative of Brig.-General Pat Akem, Commander 4 Brigade and representative of Air Commodore Umar Atiku, Commander, 81 Air Maritime Group, the Police Commissioner said: "we have arrested so many armed robbers and kidnappers and they are being interrogated.
"If you look at the calm in the state it is as a result of the efforts of the security agencies. This state will not be safe for armed robbers and kidnappers, either they repent or leave the state because we have resolved to make Edo State very comfortable for law abiding citizens. We will not allow criminals to take over this state and that is our pledge to the people of this state," he noted.
The Police Commissioner who said the State Security Council has taken a strong position to stem the tide of kidnapping in the state said "The council has resolved that any house used for kidnapping purposes will be demolished."
He further disclosed that "the response we have been getting on distress calls has been very encouraging. I am sure the security agencies are doing our best and the people are appreciating what we are doing."
