TAIPEI—HTC Corporation said on Sunday that it would roll out its new flagship handset HTC One in the United Kingdom, Germany and Taiwan this week after the Taiwanese smartphone maker delayed the inauguration earlier this month due in part to a shortage of several key components, The Wall Street Journal reported.
“We appreciate our customers’ patience and believe that once they have the phone in their hands, they will agree that it has been worth the wait,” the company said in a statement.
The HTC One is widely regarded as the company’s last attempt to regain market share in the competitive smartphone market. But the delay means it will face more competition from Samsung Electronics Co.’s latest Galaxy S4 smartphone, which the South Korean company unveiled earlier this month and is set to hit the market in April.
The HTC One will also roll out across Europe, North America and most of the Asia-Pacific before the end of April, HTC said in the statement.
The statement on new launch schedule comes after The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing several retail distributors and telecom operators, including Vodafone Group PLC, that HTC had notified them of shipment delays of the new smartphone.
