N150,000 paid as dowry.”.....Haba!

A 35-year-old trader, Mrs. Christiana Ibe, has asked the Agege Customary Court to dissolve her union with Monday Egbediokia.
Ibe said the greatest mistake she made was to allow Egbediokia to live with her when he had accommodation challenges in 2006.
She said, “I let him stay in my house in order to source for money to get an accommodation, but we ended up falling in love.
“He enjoyed my free food, shelter and clothing. The most painful part of the whole thing is that he had me for seven years.
“Despite the fact that I cohabited with him for seven years, our union didn’t produce any child.”
Ibe claimed that she bought Egbediokai a motorcycle, which was meant for commercial purposes.
She said she was shocked to find out that her husband had sold the motorcycle she bought for him.
“He sold the ‘okada’ without telling me and did not remit any money into my account. He also stole my N120,000 and sold my bus. I got to know after many days of asking about my bus; I nearly fainted when I heard of it.
“He is a gold digger, a pretender and a heart breaker. I gave him all I had but he betrayed me. I do not love him anymore, I want the court to dissolve the union and ask him to pay all that he owes me,” she said.
Egbediokia, 38, however, told the court that he  was not guilty of all the allegations brought against him.
He said he actually did a traditional wedding for his wife in Umuahia, Abia State, in 2009.
He said he won N600,000 from a lottery game he played and used part of the money to buy the motorcycle and bus being claimed by the wife as her property.
When he was asked what he wanted the court to do for him and his wife, he said, “I don’t want to leave my wife but if she must leave, I want everything I have spent on her. I want the N150,000 I paid for her dowry.”
The court president, Emmanuel Sokunle, adjourned the case till April 10, 2013.
