28 killed, houses razed as gunmen overrun Plateau villages
There seems to be no end to the bloodletting in Plateau State as over 28 people were said to have been killed while dozens of houses completely razed in two communities of Da Jak and Attakar of Ganawuri district of Riyom LGA when unknown gunmen stormed the villages at the early hours of Tuesday.
Among the dead was a police coporal serving with the Plateau State Police Command. He was reported to have been shot dead by the unknown gun men, .
It was gathered that the police man, identified as Coporal Jibril, was deployed on a patrol together with his other colleaques to the crises area of Ganawuri village of Riyom Local Government Area of the State.
A source who spoke to our correspondent said residents of the two communities were completely sacked and the entire houses razed down.
Confirming the incidence, member representing Riyom Constituency in the state house of assembly, Mr. Daniel Dem, told our correspondent that dozens of persons where feared killed but he could not tell the the number of those killed
The lawmaker who described the attack as sad , said both villages had been under siege by suspected fulani militia since last week
Dem also accused the Special task force deployed to restore law and order in the LGA as been part of the problems
He said,”My people are been killed every day and yet the special task force is not doing anything about it. I am calling for the withdrawal of the STF since the are not capable of handling the crisis that has been rocking the state for a long time
The State Commissioner of Police Mr. Chris Olakpe, who confirmed the incident, said that the officer was shot while on a peace mission to the area
He said that no arrest was made of the suspected gun men, adding that his men are carrying out investigation into the matter.
