Does Your Husband Wear Wedding Ring

Marriage is a commitment involving two people who choose to be deeply dependent on each other. Marriage is a chosen act –a process involving the partners’ will and desire. Wedding ring is a symbol of that covenant between the wedding couple. To some people the wedding ring is supposed to work as anti-cheating device because it signals to others that the person wearing it is married and already in a relationship. All wedding rings look similar because it is important that it is easily recognizable for what it is and not mistaken for just a piece of jewelry. If you are happily married it should remind you of your happiness and love with your partner.

Many people have been forced to ask, “Why do many married men go around without wearing their wedding ring?” Some wives get very worried when their husbands don’t wear their wedding ring. Does your husband wear his wedding ring? If not, why not?

There are about six reasons why some men don’t wear their wedding ring. But the one that comes to mind immediately is infidelity. But this is not the only reason.
Discomfort
Some married men don’t wear a wedding ring because they may be allergic to gold, silver or platinum. Apart from irritation, some men don’t like the feel of jewelry on their fingers because before they married they had never worn jewelry on their hands. They don’t like the oppressive feeling of a metal ring wrapped around the bottom of their finger. It may feel like extra weight.

Type of Job
Consider the man’s job before you make a judgment. In some occupations you are not allowed to wear rings because they can be hooked on hand operated machinery. If your husband is in construction business, he may not be able to wear wedding ring. Peter, a construction engineer said, “I wear my wedding ring, but I don’t wear it when I’m doing construction. It’s ’very dangerous. I’ve known men who have lost fingers by wearing a ring while working. I actually know a man who died by getting his ring caught in a piece of phone cable and was reeled into his cable spool.” Not wearing a ring could have saved the workers’ fingers and the other man’s life.
If your husband is a gym instructor, he may not be able to wear ring. If he has to lift weights always, ring may result in blisters from the extra friction.
A law enforcement officer had this to say about why he does not wear his wedding ring. “I love my wife more than anything in the world. But my work exposes me to criminals that I feel do not have the right to know if I have anyone close to me that they can hurt. Not wearing my ring allows me to do my job without any fear for my wife’s safety.”

Choice
They are people who don’t like wearing jewelry. They are anti-jewelry. Some conservative individuals think it’s a bit too flashy going about wearing gold band. Some also feel that wearing expensive looking ring is an invitation to armed robbers.

Wrong Size
Some men don’t wear wedding ring because of wrong size. They may have bought one that is very loose and are afraid of losing it or bought the right size but added weight later, that the ring will no longer fit.

Carelessness
Some men take off their ring whenever they want to shower or participate in certain sporting activities. Some careless ones may genuinely forget to put their rings back on. There are some who have lost their rings and are careless to get another one.

Infidelity
Many married men who engage in extra-marital affairs, of course, are happy to wear a wedding ring, but take it off when they are going to meet their dates. Taking the wedding ring off, and putting it back on repeatedly, however, can be risky because sooner or later he may forget to put it back on while going home or forget to pull it off while going to meet his date. Living a double life, increases the chances that the man will lose the ring and then will be forced to make up some awkward story about how this happened.

However, some men go without ring so that they can flirt with unwitting single women. They get attention from women who assume they are single. Clement, a salesman with a pharmaceutical company confessed that, “You’re deprived of the attention of numerous women who might be interested in you when you wear wedding band. I don’t wear one because I often get attention from women who assume I’m single. I like messing around with them a little bit. It enables me to flirt a little and not mention that I’m married until later.” The purpose is to deceive.

Joan, who has been a victim several times said, “When I meet a guy out at a party or a bar, one of the first things I do is glance at his hand at his ring finger to see if he is taken or not. If the man is not wearing a ring, I hit on him. The last thing any normal single girl wants is to get involved with a married man, but some men have got me deceived. I talk to them in the first place because none of them wore a wedding ring. They only told me they were married after they had slept with me. All those married women out there whose husbands are not wearing rings should be worried. It’s never an innocent choice.”

Some girls hate being misled when they could have spent their time talking to someone single. If all married men could wear their wedding rings thousands of women would be spared the embarrassment they face when their wives find out they are cheating. “As far as I know, when a man is married he should wear a ring to show his commitment to his wife. I’ve been noticing more and more men who don’t wear wedding rings. I personally regard it as a sign of disrespect to their wives,” Joan fumed.

However, some of the women don’t really care whether a man is married or not. “My husband, Jonathan says he gets more attention now that he wears a wedding band. He doesn’t think it’s the ring so much as his attitude. Some women like a man whether he is married or not because of certain traits he portrays. One woman, chatted him up at a party I didn’t attend with him. He told her he was married, but that did not deter her; she still walked him to his car asking for a date, before he drove off,” Mrs. Williams said.

“It’s up to the individual. There’s no law anywhere that says you have to wear a wedding ring. It’s a social, in some cases religious custom, but in no way compulsory. It is one thing if a man is not wearing ring so he can flirt with women; but the wearing of ring doesn’t prevent that. It’s very easy to slip off the ring at any time,” Mrs. Modus said.

In conclusion, wearing of ring is not a measure of love for you by your husband. His actions are the yardsticks for measuring how much he cares. If a man is not happy in his marriage; if he feels bored, and inadequate, he can slip off the ring any time he is having a date; and put it back on when returning home. I'd like to know what guys would think if their wives don't wear wedding rings.
