Cashless policy: Why we chose Ogun, others for second phase, by CBN

NIPOST was almost died in nigeria as a result of alternative means of posting mail through e-mail, fax and private courier services which shifted the attension of the government from the management of NIPOST. More grease to CBN Governor and others that recognised this gesture. Now the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Wednesday justified the rationale behind picking Ogun State, four other states, Rivers, Abia, Anambra, Kano, and Abuja for the second phase project of cashless policy, saying Ogun State government had started the cashless financial project in its ministries, departments and agencies before CBN introduced it in the state.

Tunde Lemo, the deputy governor, operations (CBN), disclosed that the move to reduce cash flow in the Nigerian economy had earlier been introduced and in operations in Ogun State before CBN could think about it. He added that the state government’s move and introduction of cashless policy prompted the apex bank to incorporate the state in the second phase project.

Lemo, represented by Eleonu Eme, deputy project link, shared services of CBN, said that the apex bank in conjunction with Ogun State government had concluded plans to partner NigComsat for the creation of ten internet-enabled locations in the state that will provide free internet services for the effective operation of cashless policy and mobile banking.

Website shows all 1.26bn Facebook users on one page

Visualising all of Facebook’s billion plus users is no easy task. Mark Zuckerberg has previously attempted it by mapping each individual friendship, resulting in a thick web of neon-blue tracers that drape across continents. ‘Creative technologist’ Natalia Rojas has taken a different and more direct approach: cramming every single profile picture into a single webpage, in chronological order.
The resulting image is the pixel equivalent of white noise – an undifferentiated digital blur of humanity across the globe. Naming it ‘The Faces of Facebook’, Rojas has described the project as a testament to the exhaustive and exhausting scope of the online world:
“Because there we are, all mixed up: large families, women wearing burkas, many Leo Messis, people supporting same-sex marriage or r4bia, Chihuahuas, Indian Gods, tourists pushing the leaning Tower of Pisa,  Selfies, newborns, Ferraris, studio black and white portraits, a lot of weddings but zero divorces”.

Jim Iyke's Synagogue Church Deliverance Video Goes Viral

A video showing Nollywood bad boy Jim Iyke in a deliverance session at the Synagogue Church of all Nations has surfaced online.
This is not a movie. The video captured the actor thrashing about and in fits as a group of men believed to be part of a prayer team at the church battled to restrain him while another continued to scream "Out!!"

The Synagogue church has posted a confirmation on their Facebook wall that indeed it was the actor who was delivered.
Their statement reads in part... As Wise Man Daniel ministered prayer in Jesus' name, Nollywood Actor Jim Iyke, of international fame, was arrested by the power of the Holy Spirit. The evil spirit that had tormented his life for so many years began to manifest, confessing that it was the cause of his setback and disappointment. It (evil spirit) confessed that it was the biggest and that it was only God's grace that had kept him (Jim)...
The actor has also confirmed his deliverance at the church.

For me,it was stated in the holy bible that: the name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into and they are saved. So what is the big deal for someone to run to God for aid? Comment if you see something wrong with that.

Apple Touch ID fingerprint tech 'broken', hackers say

Germany's Chaos Computer Club claims it "successfully bypassed the biometric security of Apple's Touch ID using easy everyday means".
By photographing a fingerprint left on a glass surface and creating a fake finger they were able to unlock the phone, the hackers claim.
But Apple maintains Touch ID is secure.

On its website the iPhone maker says there is a one in 50,000 chance of two separate fingerprints being alike and the technology provides "a very high level of security".
Karsten Nohl, chief scientist at SRLabs, a German hacking think tank, told the BBC: "It would have been incredible if Apple had managed to do something the rest of the biometrics industry has failed to achieve after decades of trying, so I'm not surprised it was hacked after just one day.
"Claiming this system offers a high level of security is just ridiculous," he added.

How a man who stole from car fell into a booby trap

A man caught by a high-tech police trap that turned his arms and face bright green under ultra-violet light has been convicted of stealing from a car.

Yafet Askale, 28, was sentenced to a community order yesterday after being marked by a SmartWater anti-theft device in a booby-trapped car set up by police.

He broke into the vehicle, which was left in Harlesden, northwest London, and was later found by police with items stolen from inside, including a laptop.

Officers knew to hunt him down after the system automatically alerted them to the theft on June 10 this year, and ultra-violet scans showed that his face and jacket were heavily marked with the liquid.

He pleaded not guilty before magistrates but was found guilty of theft from a motor vehicle, and sentenced to 49 hours of community work and £400 costs.

SmartWater systems are currently on trial by Brent Police in the area, and have been used on vulnerable houses and cars in the area to deter thieves - and help catch them if they strike anyway.

The devices can detect intruders, and spray them automatically with a fine mist of the substance, which is marked with a combination of chemicals that enables police to link people to a particular incident.

The substances contained in SmartWater - which is odourless and invisible to the naked eye - are almost impossible to wash out of clothes, and can stay on the skin for weeks.

PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN'S MEDIA CHAT

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said the country’s security forces will “look at different ways” in solving the security situation in the Nigeria.
Jonathan said this while answering questions during the Presidential Media Chat.
The president who said his seat “could be very hot or probably very cold” said that when confronted with such situations “you need courage to push ahead” adding that “this is a very ephemeral challenge. It is transient”.

Jonathan, who had a brief meeting with the service chiefs before the chat noted that with the commitment “we have, we will get over it” insisting that “we have to look at other ways of handling what we are trying”.

He said the declaration of state of emergency in three northeastern states in mid-May this year reduced the attacks on innocent civilians but the berated the fact that they are now trying to look at the soft spots, students hostels and places where you would not expect them to be just to embarrass the government.

He further noted that the meeting was to discuss how they must to begin to do things differently adding that “if the drum is changing, the dancers have to change their steps too”.
He also assured Nigerians “that we will continue to do what is right for this country without compromising the interest of the ordinary people”.

He was joined in the chat by Africa Independent Television’s Senami Ohiomokhare, Channels Television’s Gloria Ume-Ezeoke, Shehu Dada of the Capital Post Newspaper, Nosa Igeabor of Tell Magazine and Shola OShunkeye of The Sun Newspaper.

Apple's latest operating system, iOS 7, is making people sick - literally

Apple’s latest and greatest operating system is making people sick – literally.

The animations and transitions added to iOS 7 have unexpectedly been making people nauseous and giving them motion sickness.

The issue is so prevalent, in fact, that it has an entire message thread filled with complaints on Apple’s forums, first spotted by The Verge, and complaints have been building on Twitter as well.

The zoom animations everywhere on the new iOS 7 are literally making me nauseous and giving me a headache,’ wrote forum user Ensorceled. ‘It's exactly how I used to get car sick if I tried to read in the car.’

T-Mobile to stop stocking BlackBerry phones in US stores

T-Mobile will stop stocking BlackBerry devices in its US retail shops in the coming days due to a lack of demand from consumers.
In a fresh blow to the beleaguered smartphone manufacturer an executive at T Mobile told Reuters that the devices will in the future be shipped directly instead.

David Carey, executive vice president for corporate services, said that "keeping stock in the retail distribution system was inefficient" because customers rarely buy BlackBerry handsets in stores.
He said most BlackBerry smartphones were sold to businesses whose purchase decisions were not made in phone shops.
Carey added that T-Mobile will still display devices for "those consumers who would like to see one" and accept in-store purchases for the handsets.
A customer will still see a phone on the shelf. If inventory is not available in the store, the device can be ordered."
They said that the company "continues to support the BlackBerry platform".
On Monday BlackBerry revealed it had agreed in principle to be bought for $4.7bn (£3bn) by a consortium led by Fairfax Financial.

Bill Gates: Ctrl+Alt+Del was a mistake

Bill Gates: Ctrl+Alt+Del was a mistake
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has admitted that the decision to use Ctrl+Alt+Del as the command for logging on to a PC was a mistake.
Originally designed to trigger a reboot of a PC, Ctrl+Alt+Del now allows users to log on to Windows and access the task manager. It is also known as a quick fix for the infamous "blue screen of death" on PCs, and the phrase has been adopted in popular culture to mean "to do away with" something.
Speaking at a fundraising campaign at Harvard University, however, Gates blamed IBM engineer David Bradley for the so-called "three-fingered salute", claiming that he had favoured a single button.
"We could have had a single button, but the guy who did the IBM keyboard design didn't want to give us our single button," he said.
Bradley originally designed Ctrl+Alt+Esc to trigger a reboot, but he found it was too easy to bump the left side of the keyboard and reboot the computer accidentally. He switched the key combination to Ctrl+Alt+Del – a combination that was impossible to press with just one hand on the original IBM PC keyboard.

Father of the bride collapsed and died from massive heart attack during speech at his daughter's wedding reception

A newly-married bride saw her father die of a heart attack as he stood up to make his wedding speech - just hours after he walked her down the aisle.
Alan Bates, 65, had spent the day with family and friends celebrating the marriage of his daughter Charlotte and husband Steve Galbraith, and rose to address guests at Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, when he collapsed.
Charlotte Galbraith, 36, was ushered from the room as friends who included an off-duty firefighter and an NHS worker fought to save her father's life until ambulances arrived.
Mrs Galbraith, her new husband, 42, and their two-year-old daughter Annabelle abandoned the wedding and rushed to Airedale Hospital, where Mr Bates was taken.
But the family, from Horsforth near Leeds, was told that

A girl's best friend: The adorable moment a puppy met an eight-month-old girl

They say a dog is a man's best friend and it appears these two are getting an early start.
An adorable video has captured the moment an eight-month-old girl, Ella, plays with a two-month-old Golden Retriever puppy after they met in a hotel lobby.
The little girl giggles with glee as the puppy bounds around her, running in circles, nuzzling up against her and licking her face.
She can do nothing but squeal with delight as the energetic pup showers her with affection.
'That's the cutest thing I've ever seen!' a man behind the camera can be heard saying.
The dog keeps urging Ella to play as he wags his tail and licks her hands and head.
At one point, she rolls around with the puppy, resting her head on his belly and hugging him while the

It baffles me at times when Africa culture is being under estimated ,tagged “primitive practice” by those who went to study abroad, highly socialisers’ and coupled with the western movies we watch almost on daily basis. To be frank with you, African culture still remain one of the best culture in terms of moral and discipline.
In spite of the socialization and exposure, the westerners don’t take discipline for granted.  A story of a school sent a teenage girl into isolation because she dyed her hair red.

Natalya Page, 14, was and told she could not attend lessons at Kenton Academy, in Kenton, Newcastle, until she had her hair dyed back to its natural colour.
Teachers told her she would need to sit on her own with her form teacher, away from the rest of the class.
They contacted the pupil's father asking for permission to recolour his daughter's hair in the school salon.
But Fred Page, 44, refused and accused the school of overreacting.
Mr Page, a taxi driver, said: 'It’s ridiculous - she’s dyed her hair, not her brain.

NASA says there is NO life on Mars...........

After a year roaming the surface of Mars, Nasa has failed to find any evidence that its atmosphere is supporting life, it was revealed today.
The Curiosity rover currently scanning the Red Planet has not detected any methane, a gas that is produced by living things.
Since landing in Gale Crater last year, every morning and evening the car-size probe has analysed Mars' air and scanned it with a tiny laser in search of the greenhouse gas.

Not finding it means that it is unlikely that microbes capable of producing the gas are living below the planet's surface, scientists said today.
NASA had high hopes that the rover would inhale methane after orbiting spacecraft and Earth-based telescopes detected plumes of the gas several years ago.
On Earth, most of the gas is a by-product of life, spewed when animals digest or plants decay.

Snake robots may be on the next mission to Mars: Slithering space machines set to help rovers explore the red planet's tricky areas
'If you had microbial life somewhere on Mars that was really healthy and cranking away, you might see some of the signatures of that in the atmosphere,' said mission scientist Paul Mahaffy of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.
During Curiosity's first eight months on the red planet, it probed the air during the day and at night as the season changed from spring to summer.

'Every time we looked, we never saw it,' said Christopher Webster, of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who led the research published online in the journal Science.
Webster said while the result was 'disappointing in many ways,' the hunt for the elusive gas continues. While methane is linked to living things, it can also be made by non-biological processes.

Get ready for iOS7 but not for older Iphones

Heralded as the biggest single change to the iPhone's look, feel and performance in the device's history, the latest version of its operating system goes live for existing phone and tablet owners to download and install on Wednesday. Here's what to expect and what to do to make the upgrade a painless experience.

First things first: compatibility
Unlike the unkempt sprawling Android device ecosystem, Apple keeps a tight control over all its iDevices to ensure that they remain useful and compatible with upgrades for as long as possible. However, even older iPhones have their limits and as a result iOS7 will not run on anything older than an iPhone 4. This is where the journey ends for iPhone, iPhone 2 and iPhone 3GS owners, unfortunately.

The upgrade will, however, run on the iPad 2, iPad Mini and any subsequent full-size tablet that sports a Retina Display, as well as the fifth-generation iPod Touch.

Update and backup
Before attempting to download and install the update, make sure that all current apps are up to date. If not, download and install the latest versions and then back up the device to protect its contents. You might want to think about burning a physical disc of photos and videos -- after all these are always the most difficult files to replace. A quick social media post will give you everyone's phone numbers and email addresses again.

What will iOS7 do for your iDevice?

The wait is almost over and iO7, the first version of the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch operating system designed by Jony Ive, the brains behind the physical look and feel of all Apple devices, will be ready for download on Wednesday. However, there's a catch. Even if your device is compatible, not all of its promised 200 new features will be available to everyone.
Just the quickest of glances at the images and videos showcasing iOS7 will give non-believers some idea why the Apple community is getting so excited about the upcoming software update.
As well as a totally new look and feel, the latest OS also brings a raft of new and innovative features, including a serious overhaul of Siri, Apple's virtual assistant to bring her performance more in line with what arch competitor Android offers via Google Now. So, when asking Siri for help she can plug directly into Wikipedia, Twitter, Bing and the user's photo album or, in the case of stressed-out commutes, transit routes, and new updates to make sure they're on time for work and avoid the jams.
But not all of the headline features will function on every Apple device because of processor, RAM and screen resolution requirements, so here's a breakdown of what iOS7 will do on different devices.

Swazi king to wed 14th wife

Swaziland's King Mswati III has chosen an 18-year-old beauty pageant contestant as his 14th wife, a palace spokesman said Tuesday, days before a much-criticised parliamentary vote.

"I can confirm that the king has introduced to the nation a new liphovela (royal fiancee)," said Ludzidzini palace governor Timothy Mtetwa.

Mswati, a 45-year-old who is sub-Saharan Africa's last absolute monarch, introduced Sindiswa Dlamini at a Reed Dance celebration over the weekend, Mtetwa told AFP.

She wore red feathers on her head -- a sign of royalty.
The young woman graduated from Mbabane's St. Francis High School last year and is a finalist in the Miss Cultural Heritage beauty pageant. The winner will be announced on September 28.
The king has come under fire for his household's lavish lifestyle while the tiny mountain kingdom's 1.2 million people struggle to make a living.
Mswati reportedly has a personal fortune of around $200 million (152 euros) and the UN estimates that 70 percent of his 1.2 million subjects live below the poverty line.
He has steadfastly resisted reforms.

The 'man who couldn't get AIDS' commits suicide at 66

The 'man who couldn't get AIDS' commits suicide at 66 out of 'survivors guilt' decades after VOLUNTEERING to be injected with HIV

A New Yorker who fascinated doctors because he was resistant to H.I.V. and AIDS has committed suicide, aged 66.
Stephen Crohn was dubbed 'The Man Who Can't Catch AIDS' by The Independent in 1996 after his boyfriend and scores of his friends passed away from the disease but he remained healthy.
Bravely, he volunteered to have his white blood cells exposed to H.I.V. but doctors were unable to infect him - even at concentrations thousands of times stronger than anything that would occur outside a test tube.

But on August 23, he committed suicide, his sister Amy Crohn Santagata said on Friday.
'My brother saw all his friends around him dying, and he didn't die,' Ms Santagata said, according to The New York Times.
'He went through a tremendous amount of survivor guilt about that and said to himself, "There's got to be a reason."'
She added: 'He was quite extraordinary, and then also quite ordinary.'
In the years that followed, scores of the couple's friends died of AIDS but he never got ill, despite being as sexually active as them all and not taking any special precautions.
When he realized he was different, he volunteered to work with doctors to find out why.
'I couldn't infect the CD4 cells,' Dr Bill Paxton, who the worked at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center in New York, said. 'I'd never seen that before.'

Photos of Parents of Britain's biggest family say they are heartbroken after losing baby number 17

The parents at the head of Britain's biggest family admitted to being 'utterly devastated' today after losing their 17th baby.
Sue Radford went for her 12-week scan this morning only to find the child due in April had died.
It came a day after she and her baker husband Noel, from Morecambe, Lancashire, spoke of their excitement at expecting again just 11 months after giving birth to their youngest Casper.
'It's with such sadness that we have to say our beautiful baby's heartbeat stopped two days ago, we are utterly devastated beyond words,' they said in a statement today.

Mrs Radford, 38, first became pregnant with Chris when she was 14. She and husband Noel, now 41, were determined to keep the baby as they had both been given up for adoption. The couple married four years later and second child Sophie soon arrived.
Their youngest child, Casper, was born last October weighing 8lb 8oz and the labour lasted just 16 minutes.
Not long after his birth, Mrs Radford – who has on average had a baby every 17 months over the past 23 years – pledged to have even more. The couple also became grandparents last year when Sophie gave birth to daughter Daisy.
A family friend said: ‘They are a lovely family and the children are so well-behaved. They are obviously great parents.’

Children who learn to speak and read at early age 'more likely to become heavy drinkers in later life

I was curious when I read through this piece. It ought to be a thing of joy to parents who observe their children speaks and read at early stage but studies has revealed the opposite. Do you agree to this studies?
Children who learn to speak and read at early age 'more likely to become heavy drinkers in later life'
Children who learn to speak and read at an early age are more likely to become heavy drinkers in later life, a study has found.
Studies carried out on twins revealed that the sibling who spoke or read first were twice as likely to drink more alcohol than their brother or sister by the time they were 18.
The research was carried out on 3,000 twins from Finland.
It looked at their verbal development and drinking behavior as they grew into adults, and published in Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.

Teenagers find human remains of an African woman who died more than 1,000 years ago

It was a grisly find for anybody to make - a skull and bone discovered by two schoolboys as they played in a dingy in a river.
But the macabre discovery of the human remains has opened up a mystery, as they actually belong to a sub-Saharan African woman - who died more than a 1,000 years ago.
Police called in forensic experts to examine the skull and single bone which were discovered by schoolboys Christian Thompson and Robbie Cribley as they sat in a dingy.

The 13 year-old best friends made the gruesome find - believed to have travelled more than 3,000 miles from Africa - as they played in the River Coln in Fairford, Gloucestershire, in July.
Gloucestershire police said they had identified the remains as being from an African woman, possibly from as early as the ninth century.

They said: 'The remains were recovered and since then a forensic anthropologist has been examining them to help identify when the individual passed away.
'Today it has been confirmed that the remains are that of a woman from Sub-Saharan Africa and are dated between 896AD and 1025AD.'

They added: 'This is, of course, no longer a police matter and it is likely that the remains will be passed on to a museum or University.'

Study shows social media makes us MORE lonely and unhappy and LESS sociable

A new study from the University of Michigan psychologist Ethan Kross shows how online social media, rather than making us feel connected, contributes to loneliness and reduces overall life-satisfaction.

Facebook may have 1.1 billion users across the globe, but according to the study, the technology is having a fundamentally negative effect on the way we interact with others, and the way we perceive ourselves.

The study's 82 participants were text messaged five times a day over a two-week period with a link to an online survey about their Facebook use, their feelings of well-being and the amount of face-to-face social interaction they had engaged in.
Kross and his team discovered that the more time participants had spent on Facebook, the less happy they felt over time.
'The more people used Facebook at one time point, the worse they felt the next time we text-messaged them; the more they used Facebook over two weeks, the more their life satisfaction levels declined over time,' reports the study.

Pope's right hand man says priests may be allowed to marry........

The Pope’s new right-hand man has called for ‘discussion’ on the issue of celibacy within the Catholic Church.
Archbishop Pietro Parolin, the new secretary of state of the Vatican, told Venezuelan newspaper El Universal that celibacy is tradition rather than law, and should be open to discussion.
He said the Church must ‘reflect the democratic spirit of the times’ and take the opinions of its members into account.

He said: 'Celibacy is not an institution but look, it is also true that you can discuss (it) because as you say this is not a dogma, a dogma of the church.'

Pope Francis has been making waves in the Church with his forward-thinking approach and has made a series of comments to suggest that he is in favour of shaking up some age-old traditions.
Soon after being becoming Pope he called for a ‘poor Church for the poor’.
He also said he wanted to boost the role of women in the Church and proposed a more tolerant stance on homosexuality, stating: ‘Who am I to judge?’

NASA Finds Message From God on Mars

A couple of month ago, I posted a news on how more than 100,000 persons had already applied to be residing in another planet called "Mars".For those who still doubt the existence of God should read what NASA have experienced

NASA announced today that its Curiosity Rover has found an unambiguous message from God written on tablets in a Martian cave.
According to an official press release two giant stone slabs the size of small elephants were located deep inside a cavern abutting Aeolis Mons, a large mountain.
Upon one tablet is a copy of the Ten Commandments and the text of John 3:16 written in 12 languages – including English, Spanish, Chinese, Basque and Hebrew. On the other tablet is a simple message in English reading “I am real.”
According to top scientists who have studied the discovery extensively, these findings may have definitively established Christianity as the one true religion.
“This is amazing,” says Syms Covington, an Australian researcher working for NASA’s Mars Exploration Program. “We went into the cave looking for water, and we found proof of God’s existence instead.

Mother who used Facebook to catch the brute who raped her at 13

Honestly, social network still remain the only tools that can aid the oppress by exposing criminals and political oppressors. For some ladies and women who were victimized at a teen age shouldn't be discourage to search for the rapist on the social media just as Daily post reported how Melina Thomas, 42, who was raped at age 13 by Orville Vaughan
Three decades later she found courage to report it to the police
They said she didn't have enough evidence to charge perpetrator
She then used Facebook to gather information on rapist
Vaughan, 53, was arrested and sentenced to 17 years in jail
Turning on the computer in the corner of her dining room, Melinda Thomas clicked on her Facebook home page.
But instead of sharing family photos or discussing holiday plans, her purpose was altogether more serious. She was investigating a sex attack.

Pupils banned from starting primary school for a WEEK because parents did not attend health and safety briefing

Children were left in 'floods of tears' after they were banned from starting primary school for a week because their parents missed compulsory meetings on health and safety and child protection.
As many as nine children, some aged just four or five, were banned for a week from Briscoe Primary School, in Pitsea, Basildon, Essex, after their parents missed the sessions.
The children will be allowed back to school next Tuesday if their parents attend specially-arranged sessions.

Headteacher Debbie Rogan said she was 'mystified' as to why the parents did not attend the sessions and she was 'disappointed' the children would not be able to start school with the other pupils.
Mother Kaily Barnard, 38, said her son was turned away from the gates after she took him to the school yesterday.
She said: 'I got my son dressed and took him to the school, I didn’t think they would turn him away at the gate while he was in his uniform, but a teacher said his name was on a list of children who were not allowed in.
'I missed one session but it’s not like I would have come away with a BSc in pre-school science.
'My son is not traumastised but some of the children were.
'There are decent parents at that school and the head is trying to make an example of us - she can do that if she wants to, but not at the expense of my four-year-old son.'
Ms Barnard said: 'I only attended one of the sessions for no other reason than the second one I just completely forgot about. But they never wrote to us and told us our child’s start could be delayed.'
The 200-pupil school, which became an academy last September, holds four sessions for parents of children starting at the nursery and reception school. Two of them, covering health and safety, child protection and the curriculum, are compulsory.
Parents were warned their children would not be allowed to start at the school or nursery this week if they had not attended both.

Where were you dear reader on September 2001? A day the Americans won't forget

In September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Often referred to as 9/11, the attacks resulted in extensive death and destruction, triggering major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defining the presidency of George W. Bush. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters.

On September 11, 2001, at 8:45 a.m. on a clear Tuesday morning, an American Airlines Boeing 767 loaded with 20,000 gallons of jet fuel crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact left a gaping, burning hole near the 80th floor of the 110-story skyscraper, instantly killing hundreds of people and trapping hundreds more in higher floors. As the evacuation of the tower and its twin got underway, television cameras broadcasted live images of what initially appeared to be a freak accident. Then, 18 minutes after the first plane hit, a second Boeing 767–United Airlines Flight 175–appeared out of the sky, turned sharply toward the World Trade Center and sliced into the south tower near the 60th floor. The collision caused a massive explosion that showered burning debris over surrounding buildings and the streets below. America was under attack.

The attackers were Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations. Reportedly financed by Saudi fugitive Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda terrorist organization, they were allegedly acting in retaliation for America's support of Israel, its involvement in the Persian Gulf War and its continued military presence in the Middle East. Some of the terrorists had lived in the United States for more than a year and had taken flying lessons at American commercial flight schools. Others had slipped into the country in the months before September 11 and acted as the "muscle" in the operation. The 19 terrorists easily smuggled box-cutters and knives through security at three East Coast airports and boarded four flights bound for California, chosen because the planes were loaded with fuel for the long transcontinental journey. Soon after takeoff, the terrorists commandeered the four planes and took the controls, transforming ordinary commuter jets into guided missiles.

Patrick obahiagbon On His Controversial Way Of Speaking

Patrick Obahiagbon, the Chief of Staff to the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, in this interview with GBENRO ADEOYE, talks about his controversial way of speaking and why he chooses to speak that way

What is your educational background

I am by the grace of the celestial choir, a legal practitioner, a public administrator, an international historian and a diplomat. I earned a degree in Law and was called to the Nigerian Bar as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria about 25 years ago and I do also have a double-barreled Master’s degree in Public Administration and in International History and Diplomacy.

Why do you always speak ‘big grammar’?

I am not really consensus ad idem with those who opine that my idiolect is advertently obfuscative. No no no, it’s just that I am in my elements when the colloquy has to do with the pax nigeriana of our dreams and one necessarily needs to fulminate against the alcibiadian modus vivendi of our prebendal political class.

How do you talk to your wife, children and even your friends?

I relate with my family and friends very warmly and in an atmosphere of camaraderie, stripped of my confutational habiliment and gladiatorial homilies. I am a very peaceful, calm, level-headed and celestially attuned soul personality.

Is this the way you proposed to your wife, speaking high tech grammar?

Of course, the business of the day when I interfaced with my wife on matters of the heart had to be in plain Caeser’s language and you can decipher why that had to be so. The matter in view did not permit itself of sphinxian conundrum.

It’s a long time ago, so I can’t remember the exact words I used. We had a relationship for ten years before we got married. We’re looking at close to 20 years ago.

How does your family understand your English?

My family and friends understand me perfectly just the same way you understand me now though, I must admit that it depends on the issues on the piazza.

Is this the way you were speaking in your school days?

I’m sure if you confer with my school mates they will tell you that I no longer speak what those who just know me now call “grammar.” I could speak for about twenty minutes when I was in the university and you won’t understand one word of what I said. I must say I have deteriorated in my grammatical construct.

How did you start speaking in this manner?

It all happened when my father brought me a teaser which stated that good orators had ruled the world and you must have to be a feisty orator if you must rule the world. As an impressionable young man, I alacritously threw myself into the whirligig of improving my usage of words by amassing new words on a daily basis.

Did you write exams in school in these big words?

America may still go to the UN over Syria as Obama launches new bid to win support for air strikes

America last night refused to rule out seeking a United Nations resolution for action in Syria, potentially delaying any air strikes even further.

Despite tough talk from the White House about the pressing need to prevent further atrocities, US Secretary of State John Kerry suggested the UN route was still open and ‘no decision has been made’.
His comments came as Barack Obama prepared to show politicians harrowing footage of the effects of a chemical attack in Syria.
The move is a last-ditch attempt to shore up support ahead of a Congress vote on limited military action this week.
The 13 videos, which politicians will watch today, show civilians including young children convulsing and frothing at the mouth, apparently from the effects of nerve gas, then left lying dead or dying, in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta last month.

The footage, which was broadcast on national television in the US yesterday, has been verified by the intelligence community.
