23-year-old who can't even wash and dress kicks off new series of My 600-lb Life

A 23-year-old morbidly obese woman, who relies on her husband and mother to wash and get dressed, features in the new season of TLC's My 600-lb Life.
Christina, from South Haven, Mississippi, says that she feels 'trapped' inside her 670lb body and humiliated by the fact her family are her daily caregivers.
Desperate to get her life back on track, she embarks on year-long journey to lose the weight needed for bariatric surgery.

Growing up she was the oldest of all her siblings and was usually referred to as the 'bigger' one.
Her weight continued to climb as she got older. By seventh grade, Christina tipped the scales at 300lbs and at 17-years old, she was over 400lbs.At her heaviest, aged 22, she weighed 678lbs.
After shutting herself away from friends, Christina got married at a young age and has not left her home since.
She is confined to a wheelchair and spends most days on the couch watching television.
It wasn’t until a suicide attempt two years ago, that Christina and her family realized that something had to change.
They signed her up for the TLC show as a last ditch attempt to get her happy and healthy. 
Christina says her main goal in life is to go to college and have a 'normal marriage.'
Other subjects to appear on TLC's eight-part series, set to premiere on January 7, are 43-year-old mother-of-one Zsalynn from San Antonio, Texas.
She says her life has become a daily routine of immobility, watching seven to eight hours of TV a day while gorging on sugary treats.
As a young child, Zsaylnn was of normal weight until she reached eight-years-old. From freshman year to senior year in high school, she went from 170 to 375lbs.
oday she weighs close to 600lbs. Although her husband 'loves' her larger figure she feels depressed because she cannot provide adequate care for her nine-year-old daughter.
Similarly Penny, 46, from Atlanta, Georgia, is desperate to battle the bulge in a bid to be a part of her child's future.
She has spent the past four years living in a hospital bed and experiences her son, Liam’s life through technology, watching him arrive at school through pictures sent on her iPhone and participating in family dinners through Skype.
She felt taking part in the TLC show was her last chance to have a family, marriage and life worth living.

Boy 12, meets the 53-year-old stranger who donated a kidney and saved his life

Can you imagine what the world would become if all humans deviate from being selfish to selfless? here is a story of a 12-year-old boy who received a kidney from a stranger has met the man who transformed his life.

Tom Higgs is the first person at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London to receive a kidney from an altruistic living donor.
Most living donors are family members but, on occasion, strangers will offer up their kidneys to help save other people’s lives.
Tom met his donor, Roger Sutton, a 53-year-old GP from Portsmouth, after the pair exchanged letters through their transplant co-ordinators.
Tom has suffered from a rare type of kidney disease, atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), since the age of five. It causes blood clots to develop in the blood vessels of the kidneys and, eventually, kidney failure.
The schoolboy, from Ruislip in Greater London, needed dialysis every night for five years. He was put on the waiting list for a donor when he was eight.
A new kidney from a family member was not possible and Tom knew that a kidney from an altruistic living donor was his best option.
Tom’s mother Vicky said: ‘Those years on dialysis were very stressful and restrictive on our lives.
‘We knew that he was really poorly and would eventually need a transplant. I had to set up the dialysis machine and get Tom on it by 7pm each evening so he would be off it in time to get ready for school the next morning.
‘I needed to change his dressings before attaching him to the machine and also had to give him weekly injections.
‘It was heart-breaking knowing how much Tom disliked all of this, but we had no choice as his kidneys weren’t working and we had to filter his blood.’
Donors and recipients normally remain anonymous but Tom and Mr Sutton decided to waive that right to highlight the benefits of organ donation.
Tom underwent the surgery in 2011 and met Mr Sutton this year.
His mother said: ‘Our lives have changed so much, it’s hard to believe.
Before the transplant, we had to wait for Tom to come off the machine so we could get together and open our presents around the Christmas tree.
‘On his birthdays, we usually brought his presents up to his room. Christmas is so different now, and Tom is definitely looking forward to the celebrations this year.
‘When we heard about the match, we were told the organ was from a living donor who had decided to donate a kidney to a stranger. We were really surprised that someone would be so selfless.’
Mr Sutton underwent the operation at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth during a planned sabbatical from his GP work.
He said: ‘I can’t pinpoint the exact moment when the idea to donate a kidney first came to me. I suppose what started out as a thought grew into a quiet conviction that it was the right thing to do - a chance to say thank you for all the great things that have happened in my life.
Looking back, I can see there’s been a bit of a “renal thread” running through my life.
‘My grandmother lived for 35 years after having one of her kidneys removed. I watched a kidney transplant operation when I was a medical student. Twenty years ago a friend of mine had a transplant after developing renal failure.
‘My wife Debbie, who is a dietician, was for many years part of a renal dietetics team. As a GP, I have seen just how important organ donation is and how many lives have been saved through transplants.’
Mr Sutton underwent a rigorous assessment before the operation, both mentally and physically. He was also tested to ensure his remaining kidney would function well.
Dr Stephen Marks, a consultant kidney specialist who leads the kidney transplant programme at Great Ormond Street, said: ‘We are delighted with Tom’s progress since his transplant. Each year up to 36 of our patients undergo kidney transplants but Tom was the first one in our hospital to receive a kidney from a healthy member of the public who was also a complete stranger.
The numbers of children, young people and adults on the transplant waiting list far outweigh the number of organs that are available for transplant.
‘It can sometimes be difficult to find a suitable donor among living relatives and there simply are not enough people on the organ donor register willing to donate after their deaths.
‘Altruistic non-directed kidney donation from individuals who are prepared to selflessly undergo a major operation opens up another vital source of organs.’
Mr Sutton’s consultant surgeon, Sam Dutta, said: ‘The number of altruistic kidney donations has been on the increase here in Portsmouth over the last few years.
Since the start of this type of donation in 2007, we have seen 31 altruistic donations. This is one of the most selfless acts a person can do and we know that a healthy person can live a perfectly normal life with one good kidney.
‘In 2012, Portsmouth contributed the largest number of altruistic kidneys in the country.’
Figures released in May showed that the number of living people giving one of their organs to a stranger almost tripled in one year in the UK.
The Human Tissue Authority approved 104 altruistic organ donations in 2012-13 compared with 38 the previous year.

Unemployed man used landlord's bank details to pay for adult TV channels jailed

A man living on benefits used his landlord's bank details to pay for subscriptions to adult TV channels.
Abdul Shahid has been jailed for three years, after carrying out a £192,000 fraud.
The 34-year-old set up a series of direct debits and used a national social housing firm's details to pay for them.
Unemployed Shahid was a tenant of Guinness Northern Counties Housing Association, which provides more than 60,000 homes across the country.
He managed to get hold of the bank details of his landlords enabling him to start a string of direct debits.
They paid for subscriptions to paid TV services, including adult channels.
He also used the bank details to pay off debts, his phone bill, as well as buying a  range of goods from a catalogue.
In addition the fraudster managed to get his hands on the bank details of Telefonica, the Spanish telecommunications company which owns O2, and started paying his rent to Guinness Northern Counties through their account.
Shahid also posed as a door-to-door salesman for Sky television and BT, gathering cash payments from unsuspecting customers.
Many of the people he duped spoke little English and were left to find that within weeks their services had been switched off and Shahid was uncontactable, police said.
At Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court today Shahid admitted seven counts of fraud by false representation and one theft and he was sentenced to a total of three years in prison.
Pc Sarah Langley said: 'Shahid has effectively used these bank accounts as his own over a period of several months.
'He has been able to pay for goods and services worth tens of thousands of pounds and the cost to the businesses involved is considerable.
'His history of offending proves he is dishonest to the bone and he clearly has no qualms about ripping off unsuspecting people and organisations.
'This was a complex fraud and demonstrates that he is clearly an extremely intelligent person and it is just a shame he has channelled these talents into criminality.'

More than 1,000 Muslim couples tied the knot at a mass wedding Thursday in Nigeria's second city of Kano, part of a government programme aimed at promoting stable families.
The elaborate event at the city's central mosque included 1,111 previously divorced women and an equal number of men, many of whom had also been married before.
The mass wedding programme was launched last year by the state government and sharia police, or Hisbah, who enforce Islamic law, in response to what officials have described as a divorce epidemic.
'We are gathered here today to solemnise the weddings of 1,111 couples under Kano state’s mass wedding programme,' Deputy Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said at the ceremony, the fourth of its kind since May 2012.
The high divorce rate in our state leads to rampant cases of births outside wedlock, with children being born and dumped which leads to appalling social decay,' Ganduje said.
Hisbah chief Aminu Daurawa said the programme has arranged 4,461 marriages over the last 18 months.
The deputy governor called for stricter policies to discourage divorce and, when marriages do break up, harsher penalties for men who fail to pay alimony so that single mothers can 'provide a good upbringing for their children and make them good citizens'.
Under the match-making programme, the state government pays the traditional bride price, provides brides with furniture and seed money to start a small business.
Kano's government and the Hisbah have launched a massive crackdown on so-called 'immorality', arresting hundreds of people accused of using drugs, engaging in commercial sex and dressing inappropriately.
The Hisbah also destroyed 240,000 bottles of beer at a public ceremony last month.
Officially, sharia was restored across Nigeria's mainly Muslim north in 2001, but the Islamic legal code has been unevenly applied.
Daurawa told AFP the crackdown on immorality and the marriage programme are also being applied to Kano's minority Christian population.
'We have included 50 Christian couples in this batch in liaison with the Christian leaders in the state and they will have their weddings in church,' he said.

Lesbian who married her lover in one of Britain’s first same-sex weddings was found hanged in a cemetery

A woman who married her lesbian lover in one of Britain’s first same sex weddings was found hanged in a cemetery, more than a year after the marriage fell apart, a coroner heard today.

Donna Canavan-McClung had divorced her partner of nine years and started a 'volatile' relationship with a new girlfriend who filed a domestic abuse complaint against her days before she died, an inquest into her death heard.

Mrs Canavan-McClung, 32, married mother-of-two Colleen Canavan in 2006, months after the law was changed to allow gay civil ceremonies in the UK.  But the marriage broke down after five years and they divorced in February last year.Mrs Canavan-McClung, a lifeguard and swimming teacher who had recently lost her job, began a new relationship with a woman called Miranda Yardley, which, Dorset coroner Sherriff Payne said, was 'volatile'.
The new couple lived together most of the time but often fell out and had violent rows, the inquest heard.
Their problems came to a head this October when Miss Yardley went to the police claiming she was a victim of domestic abuse, before sending her lover a text saying she was bringing domestic abuse charges against her.
Mrs Canavan-McClung was upset by the news and told relations that she would 'go on the run' rather than be arrested, the coroner heard.
Her mother, Beth Rowles said: 'Miranda had contacted her and told her she had spent four hours in a police station pressing charges against Donna over a domestic problem, which frightened Donna and which is why she ran off.
'She could not face being arrested.  Her opinion, as far as we know, was "What’s the point of being here?"'
The inquest heard that Mrs Canavan-McClung had been prescribed anti-depressants after losing the job she loved at a local leisure centre earlier this year.
Her mother said she was 'tipped over the edge' when Miss Yardley turned up at her home and dumped her belongings on the driveway in the middle of the night on 7 October.
The inquest heard Mrs Canavan-McClung had sent a final text message to her mother saying: 'What’s the point? I’ve had enough. Nothing good ever happens to me. I will get the blame anyway.'
Two days later she sent a worrying text message to her father, and police later found her hanging in Weymouth Cemetery at 9.15pm that night, the inquest heard.
PC Michael Holman, of Dorset Police, told the coroner in a statement: 'I could see a figure hanging'.
'She was warm to the touch. I concluded she had not been in this position for very long.'
Officers cut her down 'with great difficulty', but she was declared dead at the scene.
CCTV footage from the supermarket in Weymouth showed Mrs Canavan-McClung on her own in the store at 7pm on the night she died, buying items she used to kill herself, the inquest heard.
A post-mortem examination and toxicology test on the body found she had 174mg of alcohol per 100ml of her blood in her system at the time of her death, more than twice the legal driving limit.

Summing up the case at Dorchester County Hall, the Dorset coroner said: 'She had a long-term relationship with another woman, which failed, and was then involved in another relationship which seems to have been marred by various episodes of disputes between then and much unpleasantness.
'Close to the time of her death, matters were getting very difficult for her. She had not got settled accommodation for the future, and she was involved in a dispute with her new partner about her belongings and possessions.
'She had reached a crisis point and she had seen a message that the police were likely to arrest her. She became very alarmed by this and so she was going on the run.
'During the course of 9 October, she left various messages with members of her family and this woman to the effect that she was going to kill herself.
'The family understandably became concerned and informed the police, who began a search.
'She was subsequently found in the cemetery. She was quite clearly dead.'
He added: 'I’m sure that she knew what she was doing. She knew that this was going to end her life and therefore she has taken her own life. She has committed suicide.'

What bothers me most is when I read through was; are there no surveyors or structured engineers who are mandated to monitor the life spam of commercial houses or residential to avoid disaster early enough? Well,I feel theater goers are lucky as the ceiling is plaster and not bricks.

Seventy-six injured including seven people seriously hurt after the roof of the Apollo in the West End collapsed mid-way through a packed evening performance
 Hundreds of theatregoers fled after the ceiling of one of the West End’s premier theatres collapsed midway through a packed evening performance last night.

At least 700 people were evacuated from the Apollo Theatre, in Shaftesbury Avenue, police confirmed.

A rescue operation began at 8.15pm. Seventy six people were injured, 51 of whom were treated in hospital. Seven were said to be seriously hurt. Witnesses reported seeing audience members trapped, bleeding and with broken bones.

Police said they were not aware of any fatalities. Three London buses were used to take casualties to University College Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital.

 The interior of the Grade II-listed building was left obscured by a cloud of dust and debris during the performance of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time.

Actors were seen to interrupt their performance to point at the ceiling and one witnesses reported that a performer shouted “watch out”.

Others said they thought it was all part of the show before “seeing the look on the ushers’ faces”.

Some of the casualties were seen being carried out on stretchers. Witnesses reported seeing people being treated for broken bones, and wearing oxygen masks.

 Jessica Bowie, 29, a content editor of The House magazine, said: “I heard a loud creaking noise, and then a crash, and there was a huge curtain of dust. It wasn’t clear whether a balcony or the ceiling had come down.

“There were people walking around covered in blood or dust.

“We were in the stalls at the back so we were among the first to get out. There was a huge swell of people behind us. As we were leaving, I looked at the state of the usher and he just had a look of panic and was saying ‘get out’.”

Khalil Anjarwalla, who was watching the play with his heavily pregnant wife and her parents, said people were screaming and panicking as they rushed for the exit after the roof collapsed on to the stalls.

He said: “We were watching the play and saw some movement above us but we didn’t know whether it was part of the play.

“Within an instant the entire roof caved in and you couldn’t see the sky, but at least the first layer of the roof was entirely gone and then dust filled the entire theatre.

“Everyone was just screaming and people were rushing for the exit, clambering over chairs. It was completely horrific. We had to get out, calmly. I remember thinking the cloud, the dust — it reminded me of those scenes from 9/11 in the aftermath of the building collapsing.

 One member of the audience, Steve George, said he was on the balcony when there was a “massive crash”, with plaster “smashing down” on the stall. “What it was like for the people down below, I can only imagine,” he said.

There had been suggestions that the collapse may have been caused by a lightning strike, but London Fire Brigade said it had no records on its internal log of lightning. However, it acknowledged there had been heavy rain.

Buildings next door to the theatre were undergoing structural works, the fire brigade said, but they were not believed to have contributed to the incident.

 A spokesman said that a section of ceiling around 30ft by 30ft plunged four storeys on to the audience below — a distance of at least 30ft. “Three people trapped underneath were released and about 80 walking wounded were treated by London Ambulance Service,” she added.

London Fire Brigade deputy assistant commissioner Graham Ellis said: “Ornate plasterwork and lighting rigs have fallen on the audience from a great height. Members of the audience in the theatre’s upper circle, circle and stalls have been affected by the structural collapse.

Emergency services are now waiting for structural engineers to check the building before further work can be carried out, but all casualties are believed to have been removed from the premises.”

“The other theatres have responded in the traditions of ‘theatreland’ and have rallied round and taken casualties into their theatres.”

He said the cause of the catastrophic collapse was still unconfirmed but there were no suspicious circumstances.

He said: “There was no warning, there was just a sudden collapse.”

A district surveyor from Westminster city council was on the way to the scene to carry out structural assessment of the building.

About 12 fire crews and 20 ambulance crews were sent to the scene at the height of the rescue operation. An emergency centre was set up in the Gielgud Theatre next door to treat the wounded.

Mark Haddon, who wrote the award-winning novel on which the play is based, added: “It’s been horrifying sitting here watching what has been happening at the Apollo this evening. I’m hugely relieved that no one has died. I hope that those who were seriously injured are OK. I’m sorry, too, that so many people went through such a terrifying experience.”

'Fake' interpreter from Mandela event is admitted to psychiatric hospital: report

The "fake" sign language interpreter who stood feet away from world leaders including President Barack Obama at Nelson Mandela's memorial has been committed to a psychiatric hospital, South African media reported Thursday.

Thamsanqa Jantjie caused uproar at the ceremony in Johannesburg on Dec. 10 when he used sign-language interpretations that deaf groups say were little more than nonsensical gesticulations.

The 34-year-old later claimed he may have suffered a schizophrenic attack in which he saw "angels" flying into the stadium.

There were even media reports last week that he had once been charged with involvement in a vigilante mob that had burned a man to death in 2003, but had never faced trial.

He was admitted to Sterkfontein Hospital, in Krugersdorp, on Tuesday, his wife Siziwe told Johannesburg-based newspaper The Star. She said he had visited the hospital for a check-up but when he got there it was suggested he be admitted immediately.

"The past few days have been hard. We have been supportive because he might have had a breakdown," Siziwe told the newspaper.

She added that her husband was supposed to go for a check-up the day of the ceremony, but when he got the interpreting job the day before the event she rang and postponed the appointment.

The man accused of being a sign language fraud at Nelson Mandela's memorial service, spoke publically for the first time about his performance, saying he suffered a breakdown on stage. He also said he has a history of violent behavior, prompting larger security concerns about the decision to hire him for the event. NBC's Ron Allen reports.

The debacle of the "fake" interpreter raised questions about the vetting process on carried out on those working closely alongside world leaders.

Neither the South African government, which organized the event, nor the African National Congress (ANC), South Africa's ruling party which has used Jantjie's services in the past, said they knew about the questions surrounding his medical history or qualifications.

The U.S. Secret Service said the job of hiring and vetting people used in such ceremonies abroad was the responsibility of the host government, but declined to comment further.

David Buxton, chief executive of the British Deaf Association, described Jantjie as "a total fake" after his performance at the memorial, adding: "He has no real clue about sign language and has obviously upset the deaf community of South Africa as we have received hundreds of angry messages via Facebook and Twitter."

The signer at Mandela's memorial has drawn criticism for not actually interpreting the speeches of dignitaries for deaf people around the world. Watch and weigh in.

Although Jantjie claimed he had suffered a schizophrenic attack at the Mandela memorial, the ANC has used him in past events where his interpretations were just as meaningless, according to the Deaf Federation of South Africa.

The organization sent the ANC a formal letter of complaint in Jan. 2012 which said Jantjie's sign language for a speech by South African President Jacob Zuma at the party's centenary celebrations was "self-invented" and "a mockery."

"100 percent of the information was omitted," said the complaint, seen by NBC News.

ANC spokesman Jackson Mthembu said last week he has no knowledge of the complaint ever being made. An invoice seen by NBC News suggested that the ANC employed Jantjie on at least one more occasion, in June this year.

Jantjie said he was paid a $85 daily fee for appearing at the Mandela memorial. South African government minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu said in a press conference last week that most qualified sign language interpreters charge $125 to $165 per hour and speculated that a junior official might have opted for the cheapest quote.

Both the ANC and the South African government said they are looking into their hiring process following the furor.

Pregnant woman's flat wrecked by jilted boyfriend

A pregnant woman discovered her apartment had been trashed and £8,000-worth of her belongings destroyed after telling her boyfriend she no longer loved him.

Martin Geraghty, 26, was jailed after going on a rampage and breaking everything he could find in his girlfriend Rebecca Shaw's home in Dover, Kent.

The jilted boyfriend wrecked everything in sight - including her four-year-old son's toys - and threw food up the walls and floor. Police said it was easier to list the items that hadn't been broken.

Geraghty also damaged a car outside as he hurled things out of a broken window.
Miss Shaw, 23, was so traumatised she was unable to carry on living in the flat in Dover, Kent.
The mother-of-one had told Geraghty she was pregnant with his child just two weeks before and he feared he would be barred from seeing the baby.
He admitted burglary, criminal damage and assaulting a police officer and was jailed for 18 months at Canterbury Crown Court.
Jim Harvey, prosecuting, said: 'The two had been in a relationship for three months but were separated for some time before she discovered she was pregnant.
'The relationship was volatile between the two of them.'
Miss Shaw said: "He came up to me in a bar and said: 'Just look me in the eyes and tell me you don't love me'. I said: 'No, I don't love you.'
'It reminded me as if he was copying a line from a soap opera.'
Mr Harvey said towards the end of the evening Geraghty started shouting abuse at her and her friends and she returned to her flat at 3am to find it trashed.

He said: 'Geraghty had gone into every room and damaged everything, including causing structural damage as well as furniture and electrical goods.
'He had also thrown food all over the walls and property.
'Ms Shaw was frantic, crying, screaming and not knowing what to do.
'One officer said that it would have been easier to catalogue those items which were not damaged or destroyed than those that were.
'Ms Shaw never returned to live in the flat again.'
Police dogs tracked Geraghty to a garage roof and where he shouted and repeatedly spat at officers to avoid arrest.
When PC Timothy Bott got hold of him he tried to headbutt him before biting him in the thigh.
Geraghty, of Dover was also banned from contacting Miss Shaw for five years.
Judge James O'Mahony told him that spitting and biting a police officer was 'disgusting', adding 'only dogs and animals bite'.
Oliver Kirk, defending, said: 'He has messed up really badly.
'He was undoubtedly suffering frustration because the relationship had not continued and will have a knock-on effect on his relationship with his baby.

At times, it's very difficult to comment on issue like this but why should a 13 year old girl derived joy by giving birth when she suppose to be in school,concentrate on her studies?

The father is a 61-year-old man who is now on the run from authorities who are looking to charge him with sexually abusing a child.

The young mother told local media she was 'happy' with her three sons, whom she has named Samuel, Joshua and Jovanny.
All three children are in the intensive care ward of a local hospital as the births were premature, but are all expected to survive.
The age of consent is 18 in the Dominican Republic, yet it has one of the highest teen pregnancies in the world.
Nearly 15 per cent of 15-19-year-olds in the Dominican Republic are mothers, with hundreds of babies born to girls under the age of 15 every year, according to ECPAT UK.
The Dominican Republic’s Code of Minors has recently been revised and has strengthened provisions against child abuse, including physical and emotional mistreatment, sexual exploitation and child labour, ECPAT UK said.
The offences of child abuse carry a sentence of between twenty to thirty years and $2,000 - $10,000 fine.

Identical Triplets, Conceived without Fertility Drugs, are 'One in a Million'

A Sacramento couple hit the genetic lottery when they welcomed identical triplets, conceived without fertility drugs, last month.

Doctors say the odds of naturally conceiving identical triplets, where a single fertilized egg is divided into three separate embryos, may be as high as "one in a million"

The parents of the triplets told reporters they were happy about their three bundles of joy.

"It's everything at once. I think you can get lost just staring in their faces," said the triplets' mother, Hannah Hepner. "But it's overwhelming to think about everything to come."

The newborn babies each weighed in between three and four pounds at birth.

Dr. William Gilbert, the director of Women's Services for Sutter Health in Sacramento, Calif., treated the Hepner family and said there was not a definite rate for the number of identical triplets born every year.

"It's hard to calculate a conservative estimate," Gilbert told ABCNews.com about the rate of naturally conceived identical triplets. "One in 70,000 that would be on the low end, the high end is one in a million."

While the Hepner babies were born healthy, carrying identical multiple fetuses during pregnancy can mean extra complications, said Gilbert.

Unlike fraternal twins, identical twins often share the placenta and are at the risk of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. The condition, where blood from one fetus transfers to another, can affect the growth of the triplets during the pregnancy.

"The blood vessels that come from the umbilical cord can mean too much blood flow to one fetus and not enough to another," said Gilbert. "I worry more about the identical twins more than fraternal twins."

Gilbert said one complication for the Hepner family was that Hanna Hepner suffered from preeclampsia prior to giving birth. The condition is characterized by a sudden rise in blood pressure after the 20th week of pregnancy.

Gilbert explained preeclampsia is caused by the placenta. With triplets, there were three times the amount of placenta that could potentially cause complications.

"Mom starts getting high blood pressure and it gets so high she could have a stroke," said Gilbert of preeclampsia. "It's a delicate balancing act, keeping the babies inside as long as it's safe for them."

Gilbert said most triplets are delivered at 32 weeks into the pregnancy and the Hepner babies were delivered healthy at 33 weeks.

A man 66 whose father is a bishop is sceptical believing God

As the son of a bishop, you might think he would have made his mind up on religion long ago.

But at the age of 66, it seems Jon Snow still prefers to hedge his bets when it comes to believing in God.

The veteran newsreader – whose father was the Bishop of Whitby - has revealed he enjoys all the trappings of faith, but is still unsure whether he is religious.

Despite claiming to go to a small Saxon church in Berkshire – where he spends his weekends – once or twice a month, he told the Radio Times [must credit]: ‘I like the contemplation, the hour of peace, the hymns and the community. Dunno if that makes me religious. I believe in the collective power of the human spirit. Is that who God is? I don’t think my father would say so.’

As a boy, Mr Snow spent five years as a chorister in Winchester Cathedral and attended the staunchly Anglican Ardingly College, where his father George D’Oyly Snow was headmaster.

The Channel 4 anchor – who has two children with his former partner Madeleine Colvin – married for the first time aged 62.

He and Zimbabwean academic Precious Lunga – who is 27 years his junior – tied the knot on a Caribbean beach instead of walking down a church aisle.

Known for his brightly coloured ties while presenting the news, Mr Snow insisted he is a rebel at heart.

He said: ‘If you asked people around here, they’d say I was one of the most conservative forces in the newsroom – that’s small ‘C’ – but there is a rebel in me.

‘I’m wearing a bright tie largely because they told me colours on television didn’t work. In old-fashioned colour TV they would blow out a bit. I wore them deliberately.’

And the newsreader – who claimed he is a ‘poor presenter’ – admitted he secretly loves the attention that comes with his high TV profile.

He said: ‘Either the camera loves you or it doesn’t, and if it doesn’t there’s nothing you can do about it. If it does, you’re very lucky. And if it loves you, you’ll love it. I love cameras and people coming up and doing selfies.’

In February, Mr Snow revealed he was abducted and abused by a member of staff at Ardingly College in 1953.

He said: ‘I was six years old when a member of the domestic staff at the school, where my father taught, abducted me.

‘He took me to his room and undressed me, and then himself. Thank heavens someone saw the abduction and eventually a member of staff intervened and rescued me.

‘I remember to this day fretting over not being able to do my braces up. And I admit that I have found Savile regurgitating the guilt and confusion that I felt.’

In the past, Mr Snow has been reticent about his own religious beliefs but has frequently criticised the teachings of church leaders.

He angered some Catholics in 2009 by saying the Pope was ‘condemning many millions of people to death’ by opposing condom use in areas afflicted by the Aids pandemic in Africa.

He has also criticised the Church of England for refusing to allow women bishops, and in one blog post criticised religious believers of all faiths for resorting to ‘violent verbal dispute’ rather than arguing peacefully.

Margaret Loughrey, from Strabane, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, won the massive jackpot in last Tuesday night’s draw.

The 48-year-old told her local newspaper, the Strabane Chronicle, that despite winning the big win, she doesn’t intend to move away from her hometown.

She said: ‘Definitely not. It won’t change who I am. Strabane will always be home for me.’

Ms Loughrey told how she bought the Lucky Dip on Tuesday after applying for another role at her local job centre.

‘I left the house on Tuesday because I heard there was a job advertised and I wanted to apply for it. So I went to the Jobcentre and printed out the job application before going to the Supervalu shop.

‘I can’t always afford to do the EuroMillions, but I had a couple of extra pound in my purse and just on the spur of the moment, I did a Lucky Dip.’

Miss Loughrey recalled the moment on Wednesday morning when she found out she had won the money.

‘I must have checked 10 times. I took a walk out to the back garden and sat out there for a while before coming back in and checking again.

‘I must have walked around the house for five hours before ringing my brother and asking him to call up.

‘I never panicked. I’m level-headed and I know I’ll think it all through and do the right thing, see to the right people.’

She insisted the money would not change her life but said her family will benefit from the windfall including her four brothers, sister and 75-year-old mother, Elizabeth, extended family and a few close friends.

Last night, her brother Paul told the Irish Daily Mail his sister was ‘beside herself’ with the win.

Shop assistant, Nadine O'Kane, handed her the slip with the numbers 19, 23, 27, 42 and 44 with Lucky Stars 3 and 5.

Miss O'Kane told the Irish Daily Mail: ‘Its nice to see it happen to her. I didn’t know her. I only found out on Sunday after I was told to come into work to get my picture taken.’

Local SuperValu store manager Colm Gallagher said: ‘I don’t know what Margaret’s going to do with the money but I wish her all the best with it.'

Facebook introduces 'unfollow' button - letting users hide their updates from some friends

Facebook has replaced its Hide All button with a more to-the-point ‘Unfollow,’ letting users block all messages and posts from selected friends.

Like the previous button, it gives users the option of blocking content from certain people without offending them, say through de-friending.

The latter alternative severs ties with that person on the social network, without notifying them. This new one allows for more passive aggression.

Facebook began rolling out the ‘Unfollow’ button and a related change to its users on Monday.
It added a ‘Following’ button next to the usual ‘Like’ button on a page or next to the ‘Friends’ button on a personal timeline, which will also enable users to block posts.

The button may be accessed by clicking a dropdown menu beside a friend’s recent update in your newsfeed.

When clicked, the selected update and all future correspondences from that person will placed out of sight and, thus, out of mind.

Facebook insists it’s not about passive aggression, it’s about tidiness.

‘The goal of this change is to help people curate their News Feed and see more of the content that they care about,’ a Facebook spokesperson told NBC News.

Husband killed himself six months after watching his wife die from an overdose because she got Lyme disease from a tick bite

A husband killed himself six months after watching his wife commit suicide because she had caught Lyme disease from a tick bite, an inquest heard today.

Lisa Hole, from Oxford, was infected with the serious and debilitating disease after being bitten by a tick while out walking.

Her health deteriorated rapidly - leaving her wheelchair-bound and almost entirely dependent on her husband John Mladenovich.

The 44-year-old eventually took an overdose and her husband, 46, watched his wife of 15 years die and waited for 90 minutes before calling an ambulance, Oxford Coroner's Court heard.

He was later arrested on suspicion of assisting her suicide, before being released on bail. Mr Mladenovich then used the same drug as his wife to take his own life six months later.

Details of the double suicide were revealed today as consecutive inquests into both deaths were held.

Coroner Darren Salter heard that Mr Mladenovich, who worked at Oxford University Press, could not live without his wife, despite having been her carer in the final years of her life.

Miss Hole, who was born in Edmonton, London, had contracted Lyme Disease while out walking in 1997.

The condition left her constantly exhausted, wheelchair-bound and unable to continue her job as an editor.

Despite her husband's doting care of her, she decided to commit suicide - and was found lying on her sofa by paramedics who responded to Mr Mladenovich's 999 call.

At the time, Mr Mladenvoch told the operator: 'My partner has taken an overdose and I think she is dead.'

South Central Ambulance Service paramedic Matthew Winser told the inquest: 'Mr Mladenovich said she wanted to die due to her poor quality of life.
WHAT IS LYME DISEASE?

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that is spread to humans by infected ticks.

The earliest and most common symptom of Lyme disease is a pink or red circular rash that develops around the area of the bite.

This usually appears three to 30 days after someone is bitten.

If Lyme disease is left untreated, further symptoms may develop, including:

    muscle pain
    joint pain and swelling of the joints
    neurological symptoms, such as temporary paralysis of the facial muscles

'He had told Mr Winser she had taken the drugs an hour and a half earlier at 9.50pm and he had sat with her as she took it.'

Miss Hole had previously spoken to local newspapers as part of Tick Prevention Week to warn against the dangers of tick bites.

She told Newbury Today website in 2009: 'My life was unbearable for a number of years but I never gave up hope.

'John cared for me for a number of years. He did all the cooking, everything and pushed me around in my wheelchair.'

Mr Mladenovich had been due to answer bail in July this year following his wife's suicide, but was found dead in May, the inquest heard.

His friend Bryn Barrick, had alerted police after not hearing from Mr Mladenovich for a week and receiving no answer at his home.

'The police found a note on the door saying "I’m in the living room, I have taken my own life’,' Mr Salter told the inquest.

'He was found curled up on the sofa holding three pictures of his deceased partner.'

Mr Barrick, who had befriended Mr Mladenovich in 2012, added: 'He was clearly distraught about about what happened to his wife.

'He talked about how he could not carry on without her and wanted to end his own life.'

Suicide notes were later discovered under a radiator and on a nearby computer, along with Mr Mladenovich's belongings neatly packed up and labelled, the inquest heard.

A post-mortem examination by Dr Sanjiv Manek found he had taken the same type of drugs found in his wife's body.

Mr Salter ruled that both Miss Hole and Mr Mladenovich, who was born in Derby, had taken their own lives and died from barbitual overdose.

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on Monday donated two million naira to a widow he allegedly insulted while on an inspection tour of the state.

The widow, Mrs Joy Ifije, who was invited to the Edo Government House by the governor, was also offered automatic employment by Oshiomhole.
Oshiomhole had invited the widow to personally apologise to her over his uncomplimentary remark that had generated controversies in the conventional and social media in the last few weeks.
‘’ Let me apologise to you for the way I spoke to you, I am very sorry about the statement.
“I have also realised that even in anger, one could still achieve the same result that he set out to without provocative outburst.
‘’ I apologise from the bottom of my heart, but sometimes you get angry when people compromise your efforts.’’
He said that government was trying to change the face of the state capital by doing its best to make the city beautiful.
The governor said that it was frustrating and bad for some people to truncate government efforts.
He stressed that trading on the road and walk ways could hinder free flow of traffic as well as cause accidents.
Oshiomhole, therefore, appeal to the widow to join in the campaign against road and walkways trading.
The governor said that exposing consumables to unhygienic sanitary conditions could also cause ”disease and pose dangerous health hazards to humans”.
Oshiomhole, who also announced the automatic employment to the widow, said that the employment would help her ease the burden of widowhood and give her children good and proper education.
He further assured the widow that his family would assist the widow’s second child in furthering his education, while also appealing to her to resist the temptation of law breaking.
The widow had earlier apologized to the governor for her action, saying ‘’ I know I was wrong, that was why I quickly knelt down to beg when I realized I was face to face with the Governor’’.
She promised to work with the state government in its campaign against street trading and obstruction.
She also promised to make judicious use of the money donated to her by the governor.

Fast food manager fired after she was caught preparing food while BAREFOOT

The manager of an Iowa fast food restaurant has lost her job after a customer posted pictures of the woman making food in the kitchen barefoot and sweating.

The Des Moines Register reports that 31-year-old Melinda Halvorsen was fired from the Taco John's restaurant in Charles City in August after Danielle Tiesmessen posted the picture to Facebook.

Tiesmessen says she was in Charles City Taco John's when she saw Halvorsen enter the food preparation area with no shoes, gloves or uniform.

'This is in Charles City Iowa Taco John’s!! This woman was preparing food with bare feet, no uniform, her bra and chest hanging out all over the place, she was pouring sweat, wiping it off with her hands and not washing them.

'I asked for the manager — she WAS the manager!! She was extremely rude because I was upset with her appearance and behavior,' Tiesmessen posted along with the picture.

According to the Des Moines Register, Halvorsen, a team leader who was employed at the restaurant for five years, had mowed the grass outside the franchise prior to entering the restaurant. She was apparently preparing food for herself and some friends when Tiesmessen spotted her.

After the franchise owner Linda Johnson reviewed security footage of the incident, Halvorsen was fired for her conduct, which violated company policy as well as state health regulations.

She also failed to pay for the food she prepared for herself and her friends.

Halvorsen recently lost her appeal to collect unemployment benefits because officials ruled she violated health codes and hurt the restaurant's business.
